Dod you notice any difference with the re-gearing, I'm running 33" and am wondering weather to re-gear ?!!!!!!!!
I'm getting a 3" exhaust etc to help and my turbo boost increased.

Thumbs up Gears

Gears are a must if you use your gears to slow you down when going down hill,or crawl around on the rocks. I wish I would have gone taller myself. I've found that I could use to be slowed down a little more...Think of it this way, the more technical trails you go on, the slower, more methodical your line through the trail should be.

I bet that deisel rig is pretty cool. I wish I had a deisel!!

My friend had an old turbo-diesel p/u (toyota) with 35's on it. That thing was a beast. The only problem that he had was that the frame was rusting out like crazy. He tried to find another turbo but didn't have any luck. It's hard to find something that does not rust that bad here in Maryland. My grandfather, had an old 77' pickup out in Arizona, never had an inch of rust on it once!

Hey Steve, where was that middle picture taken (The one with your truck up on the rock) ? I'm curious because from what I could tell it looked like a nice area to offroad in. I live in Escondido, and it's tough to find any legal spots within a reasonable distance.

Awesome pics by the way I'm guessing the one on the dunes is Glamis? Or is it Blow Sand or Devils Slide (never remember which is which ) in Ocotillo? That part looks very familiar to me.

Thumbs down Location

Hey fellow San Diegan! The location of those pics? Actually the one on the rock is right across the street from West Hills High School in Santee. It's got some sweet steep hills and some good rocks to play on, but unfortunately it's not legal. In fact,
This is the place I got my one and only off road ticket. I don't go there anymore.
The picture that you think is a dune is actually in Otay, about 1 mile from the Mexican Border--also illegal, but no tickets yet--although I have been chased out by the Border Patrol. They saaid we were setting off all kinds of sensors.
The top picture was out at Black Mountain. It's pretty much all developed now around there, so I rarely go there...Exept when it rains a whole lot--almost never--there's a huge mud pit about 3-4 feet deep that is a lot of fun...Black Mountain is illegal as well.
I really like Los Coyotes near Warner Springs--That place is pretty close to you, or there is an ORV park near the San Juan Trail in Temecula. There must be some out of the way places in Escondido that you like to go, aren't there?

Yeah there are a couple around here. One is a really nice set of service/fire roads up near Gopher Canyon Road (Across the freeway from Lawerence Welk Resort). My friends and I go up there sometimes. The trails wind way back into the hills (it's a service road for a few water towers) I have no idea how far the trails go back, I've only gone maybe 3 or 4 miles in. Some of the trails are pretty tough, but usually there's a side trail that takes you to the same area. There's also a couple of good places for rock climbing (not with the truck, but with caribiners, and rope ) Although my friends and I have no idea if it's legal or not. It's a dirt road off of a paved road, there aren't any "No Trespassing" or "Private Property" Signs anywhere to be seen, except on the fences around the water towers. We haven't had any problems yet, so hopefully it's okay. And if we do get a ticket, we'll fight it, because there isn't any posted signs to tell us that we can't/shouldn't be there. So i'm going to keep going there unless I'm told otherwise That's pretty much the only good place that's fairly close to me.

I haven't been out to Los Coyotes yet. My friends have been out there and they say it's really cool. So hopefully I'll get out there one of these days

I had been thinking about driving out to Black Mountain to see if there's anything, but last time I was over there it was getting really developed like you said. So I think i'm going to just end up exploring more and more of these service roads that I've been going on, Until I find someplace better Actually it looks like there are some trails in the hills behind Lake Hodges, and over in Harmony Grove (I noticed them yesterday ) So I think some exploring is in my future

Thanks for the info Steve.

you don't need to be rich for a TJM. im getting an ARB, and have no money. here is what you do....

crash into a tree, and have the insurance give you about 1000 more than you acually need to fix your truck. they charged me for all kinds of stuff i didnt need. also, the stock bumper cost about as much (or more) than the TJM/ARB. So i still have a bit of money left over, and am getting one of those spray in bed liners with it. the rest of the money left over will go towards mine increased insurance cost

the only reason im getting the ARB over TJM is that i think it looks better. i also found it cheaper, but the cost of shipping evened out. the ARB is coming from washington, the TJM was much closer.. (whereever Xtremeoff-road lives, i forget now)

like i said, keep up the good work. oh, and what kind of tires did you say you had? general muds? where can i get those, and about how much? thanks.

Talking General Mudders

I got my General Mudders for about 85 Bucks each. The tread pattern is almost identical. Like I said, they wear much better than BFGs. I've had two pairs of BFGs, rotated them when I was supposed to,and still wore down in about a year. I've had my Generals for at least two years, and still have a way to go...And It's my daily driver. I guess maybe BFG's have a softer compound or something.
