As mentioned before, I think, Alcohol based fuels tend to dry out gaskets and seals. Running straight alcohol in a typical gas motor would cause quite a few problems.

On one of the channels the other night they were showing a country that was making fuel from sugar cane with this giant still. The thing that was so great about it is that after they mashed up the cane and extracted the sugar they dried the cane and burnt it to run the still. The guy claims it runs there cars perfectly and that they had stations set up all aver the country and they were building more. It has cut down there need for oil dependency by over 30% so far.
We don't have much cane in this country but we sure do have the corn and the means for manufacturing corn oil . Willie Nelson runs his diesel bus off of used fryer grease.
There is no doubt in my mind that this nation can or already has come up with alternative fuel to run our autos and equipment but our gov. can't work out the ramifications of not using imported oil from country's who depend on our use of it for there economy to survive.
Neither do I believe that there is any reason for gas prices to be as high as they are other than to line the pockets of the fat cats. If everyone in this country would stay home or not buy one penny of gas for one day you would see the gas prices drop dramatically because of what it would cost the investors.
