Talking The mods never stop!

well here I am again adding something to my 4runner, I recently purchased a dash kit, metallic silver color, from Jason! It looks great, but before I put it on I have to remove my center stereo area and paint the insides silver like Brian has done so that the sides will be silver to match, the dash kit it not 3-D, hopefully I will do the install on Saturday or Sunday and have pics up by Sunday night, however can someone point me toward a write up of removing the center stereo area becuase last time I couldn't seem to get it off without forcing it, and I didn't want to break it.

It's been a while since I did it last, but off the top of my head I think it is:

1. Undo the climate knobs/dials.
2. Pry off the climate cover.
3. Unscrew 2 screws.
4. Remove 1 screw & 1 center-locking pin from each plastic piece, on either side of the gearshift, at the bottom of the center console.
5. Pry console forward from the top, just enough to expose the wires connected behind it.
6. Undo 6 plugs/wiring harnesses.
7. Finish prying console forward and upward.

I believe that was it, but my memory is a little rusty right now.

This should help a little:

Be real careful when you're installing those pieces...you only get one shot! That 3m adhesive bites harder than a Pit Bull.

well i'm done!!!!!!! it looks awesome, although I was hoping to paint the insides and the sides silver to match, but it didn't look easy and I didn't have the patience to cover all the stuff that i didn't want to paint, so check out the pictures and tell me what you think!, i'm pretty sure all the pieces are straight except for the one by the ignition, sure is a hell of a dash kit Jason, thanks!

Well it looks real good. Classy. It won't rub off like the paint either. Interior mods are fun...like jumpin' in a new truck the next day.

well actually it kidna did, but I was taking my time, I thought I was going to be done before it was dark, but I was wrong! Of course I would have gotten done faster if I didn't have to go back into the house for the stuff I forgot numerous times.....hate when that happens, I think the next mod i'm doing is changed the a/c controls lights, because I saw them when I was taking the dash apart.

Geez, that's a lot of pieces, I can see how you could underestimate the time. Good job!

PS...same happens to me as I keep my tools seperate from my parents and the house has my tools inside my rally box and a few other scattered places, so I am always running in and out my house, too. The worst is when it's freakin hot outside and you gota keep running in to get a drink.

Sweet! Looks great.

When I was looking at the pics, they looked jagged. I had to hit the down arrow box at the top and change it to NORMAL, and then the pics looked awesome!

Does anyone know a way to make "NORMAL" the defualt setting on webshots, so you don't have to keep changing it for every picture? I don't know if anyone else knows about this trick, but it works!

oh the dash disassembly was easier than I thought, because ther were no screws to undo, I just had to pull the dash off.....it just took me a long time to place the dash kit as to not make anything messed up
