Can a radiator resivore cap that was not on cause a misfire?

No, a loose cap will not cause a driveability issue, AFAIK.

A vacuum leak, unmetered air into the throttle body, bad plugs or wires, bad timing, etc. can.

What engine?

I have a whole other thread going through my list of problems cannot post link right now at work. I am sure you can find it on my profile. Quick queation can low levels of rad fluid cause misfire?

A low coolant level may give the temp sensor a wrong reading and mess with the idle, but I doubt a misfire unless it's idling really low.

It misfires on cold starts when the cel is lit generaly 4 days at a time then it clears and run fine
