So whatever moron owned my truck before me did not have a clue how to work on the factory manual hubs. My driver's side hub wouldn't go into the locked position so I had a good friend of mine who is a professional mechanic and 4wd guru take apart my drivers side hub and what we found was the bolt that goes into the cv joint was broken off and the lock washer that goes on the end is missing. Also the spring that allows the hub to return to free wheeling mode is missing. Now my friend suggests that I just buy all new hubs, but I'm hoping there is a better way to fix the factory hubs that I have. Finally what kind of bolt goes into the end of the cv joint at the hub? I need to know so I can get a replacement when I replace the shaft.

 

Just my thoughts on the hub itself....I think you'd be way better off just running to the junkyard and seeing if you can score a hub for parts. Maybe check on ebay....as for the other stuff I'm not sure on. Hope this helps

 

I picked up a set of hubs to keep as spares a while back for $10 at the local salvage yard. I installed them on a buddies 4 runner with no problems!

 

That looks like your answer right there. A manual hub is easy to rebuild once you've seen it done.
