Maintenance Ideas And Pronto!

I am getting ready to drop my rig off at the stealer...

Here is what is getting done so far:

1. PCV Valve
2. Cold start problem
3. Window problem diagnosis
4. Injector cleaning (possibly)

So what else would you guys reccommend for a new 130,000 mile service?

I am also going to ask them what kind of overall inspection they can do just to make sure the everything is in working order.

Any ideas?

Quick responses would be appreciated since I will be leaving here shortly...thanks guys!

Maint. ideas to have checked out

I would get your coolants PH level checked out. That is where they check with a tester how cold it can get before your coolant freezes. Have your battery and charging system checked out. Thats all I can think about that are most important. Checked my coolant with my tester today and WOOHOO im good to negative 45 degrees. If it gets that dang cold I will head south of the border and thaw out. Blue

OK, so have my coolant tested and the battery and charging system checked out as well.

Thanks for the quick response BBB...

Get the fuel filter changed. If you aren't going to diagnose a window problem, definitely have the dealer do this...

When was the timing belt done last?

Plugs, wires, cap/rotor?

What about your fetzer valve?

When was the tranny fluid changed last?

Also, don't forget to change the washer fluid and have your muffler bearings lubed...

Just 'cause I'm doing mine, check out the O2 sensors, if you haven't already replaced. They can go bad enough to kill your gas mileage, but not trigger a error code in the computer.

Fuel filter was just done, timing belt was changed about 3-4 months ago.

No idea what the fetzer valve is, muffler bearings? I had the exhaust system checked a little bit ago and they said that there were some nuts/bolts and washers that needed to be replaced and they did that so I would assume that they checked everything that needed to be checked there.

Plugs were done about 2-3 months wires were done near the same time, cap and rotor just done about 2 weeks ago.

No idea about the tranny fluid, but I will have them check all fluids and see if any of them need to be changed.

O2 sensor was done just about 2 weeks ago...no gas mileage change. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I will just have them do the most extenisive inspection that they have available there.

If you guys think of anything else after I leave I will call them up tomorrow and have them do it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it and keep em comin!!!

Later,

Fink

You definitely need to have this done. While it won't trash your engine, it will leave you stranded if it breaks. When my HG recall was done at 115K, mine was cracked.

Have them check all the hoses for any cracks.

The dealer will have a 130K mile service but it'll cost you an arm and a leg.

Seriously you should change your windshield washer fluid. It can also freeze making you have to buy a new washer fluid container. They have antifreeze stuff to add to it that will keep it from freezing to. Blue

Do you think it would be worth doing the 130k service at this point (i'm at like ~127,400)?

I pretty much just want my belts and hoses checked and then my shocks...I have no idea when/if they were replaced...so...

And I will just leave it up to my best buddy's judgement at the dealer as to what to have done...we'll see what happens.

How much should the PCV valve cost to have done?

Thanks for all the help, keep the advice coming...I can always use more knowledge!

I think the PCV valve was about $50 but that included the cost of a new rubber tube thingy. They'll probably have to replace that too.

OK, sounds good to me.

I am getting ready to call them and I am just going to talk to them about what the 130k service interval entails...if you guys have a link to a site that explains it all that would be awesome.

And I will let you know what the stealer and I decide.

Thanks for all the help so far guys!

Well the dealer said that the 130k mile service is gonna run around 485 bucks so ya know what...I'm gonna do most of that stuff myself.

When I go to pick the rig up from the dealer I am going to have them give me a list of reccommended things to have done at 130k and just go through that list and see what I can do myself and then whatever I can't I will have them do it.

I asked this before but I'll ask it again, is there a website that outlines the reccommended service items to have done at a certain mileage.

Thanks for your help guys,

Fink

LMAO

Well, the dealer was full on Saturday so they could never get to mine. But I am dropping it off tomorrow night after class and they're gonna keep it over night.

I am thinking about picking and choosing off of the "Every 30k Mile" list that they gave me.

The list reads as follow-

Replace:
-Engine Oil & Filter, Engine Coolant, Air Filter, PCV Valve, Spark plugs, Transmission Fluid, Rear Diff. Fluid, 4x4 Fluids

Adjust:
-Tire Pressure & Check Tread Depth
-Rotate & Balance Tires, Lube Chassis, Parking Break
-Clean & Adjust Rear Brakes

Inspect:
Steering, Suspension, Exhaust, Drive Belts & Hoses, Under Hood Fluid Levels, Dist. Cap & Plug Wires, Throttle Position Sensor(TPS), Air Conditioning System
-Brake Inspection with Measurement

ADDITIONAL MAJOR SERVICE ITEMS:
-Mechanical Valve Adj. = $90
-Auto Trans. Service = $50
-Platinum Tip Plugs = $8/ea.
-Iridium Tip Plugs = $14/ea.
-Replace Timing Belt (4 cyl.) = $199.95
-Replace Timing Belt (6 cyl.) = $279.95

A LA CARTE SERVICE OPTIONS:
-Tire Rotation = $16.95
-Tire Balance w/Rotation = $32.95
-4 Wheel Alignment = $59.95
-Transmission Service (auto0 = $94.95
-Differential Service = $44.95
-Front Brake Pad Replacement = $95.95
-Coolant Replacement Service = $48.95
-Fuel Injection Service = $74.95
-A/C In-Cabin Air Filter = $59.95

My main concern of this entire list would be the list of the inspections...I want all that stuff inspected just so I know that everything is in good (or bad) shape. The only thing out of the adjustments section would be the cleaning & adjusting of the rear brakes. Maybe go ahead and have them check the tread depth while they're there. I'm also thinking about having the Rear Diff. Replaced (is this the same as flushing?) and the 4x4 Fluids replaced. And if it's not too much more I will go ahead and have them replace the trans. fluids too.

The only other things that I can think of off the other lists would be the injection service, possibly the In-Cabin A/C Air Filter because for the past few days, little pieces of brown foam stuff has been shooting out of the air vents when I turn the air on high...weird...

I was wondering about the "Mechanical Valve Adj.", how do I know if I need that? I can hear some kind of valve tapping but I'm not sure if it is normal or not. I may just ask them to see if I need it...I'm half and half about that one.

Sorry about the long post but I just thought that there may be somebody else out there wanting to see what Toyota has on their reccommended list for every 30k mile service.

Let me know what you guys think...

Fink
