Yep I am one of the wierdos that wants to lower his 87 pickup. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on kits or parts. Is it possible to lower the truck and have a better ride by replacing some things? Right now the ride kind of sucks, i hit a bump and i feel it badly. Sometimes rough enough to make my passenger bounce around and smack their head... Funny at first, annoying later. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a 94 extra cab with the same suspension set up that youve got. Heres what I did.........the front is actually pretty easy and retained the good independent suspension ride. I just swapped out my spindles from godfather customs in Georgia I believe. Any mini truckin has numerous resources for front spindles. The rear is even easier as I swapped out the leaf springs with "lowered" springs. I only had about a 2" front and 3" rear drop so I loosened the front torsion bars for about another inch, the ride didn't suffer. Also,make sure to get a good alignment.
The rear got a set of 2 inch blocks as well as the springs and then I put in some air shocks to allow me to still load the back when I want to. I had about a 4-5" overall drop and had some 16X7 inch wheels with 215/40/16 BFG's on there. If I find the issue the truck is actually in an issue of minitruckin when I went to Texas Heat Wave in Austin. I'll scan the pics. Let me know if you need more specific info.

ya know...

you could just crank the torsion bars in the front and put blocks in the back. thats how i lowered my 90 truck. it cost 28 dollars to lower my truck ( the cost of the blocks only )-- then to smooth out the ride, cut the bumpstops in half. I had the smoothest lowered truck ive ever seen and people always asked me about my 28 dollar lowering job. that was a 4" drop by the way-- i had 16's too.

Lol... i only wish i knew everything you said... I am looking at having someone do it for me unless i could find a really really good tutorial on how to do it that included good instructions.. If i had guidance i could probabley do it myself.. but without it i am lost

 

It ended up costing me right around 275 I think. Don't just turn the torsions down. It WILL NOT ride as smooth as using spindles for sure. I had it that way as well at first, DEFINITELY NOT the way to go for a good ride.
Almost forgot, get some good shocks as well, I had some Tokicos that were about 45 a piece for the front. Those made a good difference as well

 

Looking at spindles now on Stylinconcepts.com.... $279.95 for a pair of spindles to drop the front 2 or 3 inches... then about 25+ for each block for the back. When i get some extra money i will prolly go for it and have it lowered... I do need some good shocks i bet those that are on it are worn out... 87 pickup with everything on it stock, nothing seemed to be replaced when i got it except the fender and bumper...

 

Whenever i see people lowering trucks they go so many inches in the front and then so many in the back plus 1.... is that the standard thing to do?

 

How low? Do you want an adjustable suspesion so you can lay frame when you stop or do want just an easy drop?
