To be the devil's advocate...
Lifting a vehicle:
Worsens the drag coefficient
Increases consumption
Increases the already quite high (esp in our vehicles) probability of rolling
Decreases the chances of you being able to avoid an accident, child, deer etc.
Puts more strain on and reduces the performance of:
The drive train (see CV axles)
Engine (slower and requires more fuel for same performance added wear and tear)
Brakes* (longer distances, more wear)
Steering
Hell, you get the idea... My point is that vehicles are so advanced these days that doing pretty much anything to them will result with SOMEthing negative. What matters is if that modification is functional for the owners specific need. You said lowering any truck is a stupid idea, what about a truck that is being outfitted for towing? What if his drive to work was on a road where it had 130 turns in 8 miles and given the climate needed 4WD? This would make having a vehicle that reacted like a car but had the security of 4WD and the space of an SUV a top priority. There is a use for everything so lets not be too close minded.

). Therefore, increase in consumption won’t be there (nothing drastic, anyway). Chance of rollover will be greater, I agree there. Drivetrain strain is there, too, but it’s the same with lowering a vehicle. CV’s will be at an off-angle whether you lift or drop. Engine won’t need to work any harder, though, unless you go with bigger wheels. Same with brakes.People associate lifting with a hit on performance (on-road). Not the case, in most parts. Turbulence, slipstream, etc. won't make a big difference whether you're lifting OR dropping. Most lifted trucks have bigger tires, which is where the performance takes that big hit. Other than that, you're not gaining or losing anything by lifting. If it were the case, how about we all lower our trucks 2" and see if we see 25-28MPG? Not going to happen. On the same note, most people seem to associate lowering with performance. I remember back in my Honda days, some dropped 3” and thought their car could handle like a Ferrari. Simply not the case. Same with the 4Runner. Don’t assume that because you lower it, it will handle better (especially considering the OP cut the springs) and make the power/drivetrain magically work better..

Some people don't have to "compete for attention" because of their vehicles. Ever thought of that? Maybe people just have unique preferences and don't need the approval of others for "who they are" lol.
Raising a truck is just as "dumb" as lowering one, if you want to be honest about it. Matter of fact, raising is actually less safe than lowering. You can self justify in your mind all you want about the retort, but facts override your emotional tirade about it.

I missed this last year and it's funny to see someone bring up a 4 year old thread to rip me over my "emotional tirade".
Sounds like somebody had their wheaties peed on that morning in '08.

You weren't even around when the thread was started, nor have you ever posted in it before now, so I'm guessing it's a new thread to you. How does this thread annoy you? I can't stand these people that whine like 5 year olds about threads being brought back for more laughs. It always seems to be the web-wheelers that always have these "newb" comments too. Get over it, people like to laugh at old stuff, me included.
