low fuel light

hey guys on my truck its 18 gallon fuel tank.. me being the curious guy i am ran 15 miles past when the fuel light comes on.. my fuel light comes on roughly at 16 gallons. gives me roughly 2 gallons left.. how far have you guys ran your truck till? when filled up it was at 16.7 gallons. so really i could have gone further but i wasnt going to challenge it too much bc the needle was below the line..

I normally run 60-80 miles after the low fuel light comes on and that needs approx 15.8-16.5 gallons of gas.

I don't have a low fuel light. Ran out of gas at least 3 times I think. Pretty much sucks.

Not trying to tell anyone what to do but I've been told (by Dad) so of course it has to be true... not to run the tank that low, cuz that's where all the crap builds up in the bottom of the tank, which in turn gets sucked up into line and fouls up filters. Just a suggestion makes sense to me....anyone else agree?

if you drain it down each time there isnt any 'crap' left to build-up.

& thats what filters are for, just replace it regularly

yeah i have an 18 gallon tank and i get nervous at about 15 miles after the light comes on but everytime i fill up its 16.5 gallons so that leaves me over a gallon left. the needle goes below the line and i get nervous but i have never gone over 16.7 gallons...

I can usually go 50-60 miles after the light comes on depending on how I drive.

Light came one once but I was in the middle of know where and there wasn't a gas station in sight went 80 miles, found a gas station, just as I pulled up to the pump the engine started to choke and died. Talk about close one...

I try to keep my self limited to half a tank, this way I kinda save more gas, but with my sending unit all messed up I can't tell when the needle is right so i just go by mileage...

I really pushed it the other day. Was racing across the city to get my friend to his car's Ford dealership so he could pick up his car before they closed for the weekend.

I was way below the line.

Think I put in like 17.8 gallons and then the stupid pump over-flowed all over my rear quarter. Should I be worried about the spilled gas messing with the car's paint and plastic? Honestly, that's never happened to me before.
