Alright guys I am at a total loss. I cant decide whether to get a 1" body lift, new rims (16x8) with the 285s, which will cost more(im a broke college student)...or should i just buy another set of 265/75s on my stock rims. I really want some MT/Rs. I have the Tundra set up and dont really mind the 265/75s on it. Ive been reading the posts about the steel wheels and havent really came to a conclusion. Many people say they like it, and many people say they hate it. Ive talked to a lot of people and they have said that as long as the tire is not fubard, the it is fine. The wheelers aluminum wheels weight about 24 lbs they say. Im guessing a steel wheel weighs about 10 more lbs than that. Does that really have that much of an effect? I dont wheel often, maybe 3-4 times a year, so the durability of the steel wheels would not really come into play.

you also need to consider that going to 285's will kill your power and your gas mileage, which will also drain your wallet.

you're only in college for a few years. enjoy it for what it is and worry about the expensive stuff when you get out and get a decent paycheck. until then, make do with what you have and don't go into debt for it...

keep the 265/75 on stock rims. You only wheel 3-4 times a year. Get bigger tires and steel wheels when you finish school and can afford the upgrade and the lower mpg.

 

you can always get some 265/75 MT/R's like lee did...

 

Yeah, I agree with Andy. Stay with the same size but go a little more aggressive if looks are of concern.

The BL is cheap as is the difference between 265s and 285s ( about 7 bucks difference). Gas will suffer.

Leave the setup alone. go to www.tires.com and order some MTRs for $171 each w/ free shipping and $75 back on a set of four. SAve up for 16X8s and leave it alone.

Smart man. Also, look into ROTH IRA's.

 

I ran 31" ProComp M/T's on stock rims for over a year and they were fine. I just upgraded to 33's on 16's and I DEFINATELY notice the gas drop and a slight drop in power. Plus my wallet is like $1400 lighter! Save your money... buy the new tires and see how you like them before you dive into a whole new setup.
