Looking for a new 4runner
Well unless someone knows how I can get a new 3.0 V6 engine for my runner for under $2,000 then I guess I am going to have to find a new one. I am located in Northwest Louisiana so if any of you guys in Texas or Arkansas knows of any deals I ought to take a look at please let me know. I would like to trade in my old busted truck whatever I do so I guess I had better buy from a dealership....that is unless one of you guys is interested in a '94 4runner in great shape but a busted engine. So TOR and any of you guys who work at a Toyota places let me know whats on the lot.
I'm looking for something under 90,000 miles, not white, not a 4 cylinder, and something affordable. Let me know what you guys see!

Mine is for sale. Search for "built 96" in the forsale section.
BUT!!! You can do an engine swap for $2000. http://www.car-parts.com - Cost to install it should be right around $1000. I found myself a '97 engine w/ 55k on Carparts for $1500 and had it installed for $900. Look around...that truck is going to be worthless w/o an engine. You are much better off fixing it and selling it or fixing it and keeping it.

thats a good point Poboy. I have one guy now who thinks he might have a cheaper engine for me. Everyone else is asking top dollar for the engines (like $3,000+). I'm just assumming it would be cost prohibitive to ship from too far away. Anybody shipped any engine and no freight costs?

I actually bought this black one about 5 weeks ago froma wholesale dealer to resell and make a couple of bucks. My wife just had a baby boy and she's taking a few months off, so i decided to buy and sell a few cars to supplement income.
I'm also going to be selling my white 99 limited 2wd soon and get a silver or white 99 4wd to keep. i should have just gotten 4wd to begin with instead of settling for something else...

Dont mean to hijack this thread but, Bamachem, you could potentially have 2 customers here depending on how LArunner feels about this.
Are you just buying and selling as you feel like it or would you consider taking orders from people? I myself am looking for a 00 or newer black or Jade color limited.
For good prices, we could buy from you and then just sell the 4 runners that we have to someone else, or to you. Just a thought. I dont want to push anybody into doing anything they really were not wanting to do.

Larunner,
If I was you, I would get on ebay, and search for a 96-98 limited or whichever you like, and buy one.
I got my 1997 limited, loaded with every option, 96K miles, 4wd, rear locker, brand new tires, etc. for only $10,400, and it booked out at $16,600. In addition, the seller paid me an additional $450 after getting home and te rear axle seal blew.
Ebay is a buyers market, not a sellers, unless you are a wholesaler. Find the ones that started as a no reserve auction, pull kelly blue books value on them, using trade in value, decide what you would pay over trade-in value, and then within the last minute of the end of auction (obviously if it's still under you max bid amount), and bid you max bid in the last 15-20 seconds of the end of auction. Don't bid even once before then! If you win, you'll only have to pay$100 more than the next highest bidder which could be a lot lower than you were willing to pay.
I ended up only paying a couple of hundred dollars over the trade in value for my 1997. I was very happy! Just an idea, but I would definitely do it again,

Maybe its an outdated philosophy but its hard for me to imagine buying a vehicle without driving it or looking it over first. Did you get to drive the runner before you purchased raven? Were there any surprises when you finally saw your new ride?
For me I am looking for something I can go hunting in occasionally and something I can drive clients around in. I sell commercial real estate so appearance is everything.

I bought the 4runner without seeing it, but had a written clause from the seller indicating that if I arrived and found that it wasn't within the description mentioned, I didn't have to follow through with the purchase. I was very hesitant too, but money talks, and I got it cheap. There are some sweet rigs on ebay, and the key is to ask the sellers a million questions before placing your bid.
