Okay here is my thought I am looking for a fiberglass scopp like this one that I ran across on Ebay any one with ideas ?? and could someone with a 3rd Gen run out and see if the mesurments are about the same for thiers Thanks..!
Got to do something with this spare hood I got laying around

 

I tried to measure it. Mine is about 18" across at the base and about 22" long front to rear and about 2" high.

However, I have never seen somone actually put one of those on and have it look good. It is an easy was yo ruin your hood.

Look for a hood with the scoop on car-parts.com or something, don't try to put that sccop on your hood.

I think the stick on one would be better if you have to do it.

 

Thanks for getting out the tape measure (hmm sounds like a close match in size)... yeah I have a spare hood sitting in my spare bedroom collecting dust and I figured for about few dollars I can get a scoop I will fiberglass it up and prep it for someone to paint for me. I can be handy when it saves me money. Well If I decide to do the Mod I'll be sure to get some pics... know how everyone here likes them and all.

 

I thought about using that same scoop for my hood. What's wrong with them? I think if you do it right it will look fine, almost stock. I'd say try it especially if you've got a spare

 

Guys if you want that cool 3rd gen hood scoop on your second gen truck my guy can set you up! He has made a mold and fabs up custom 2gen hoods with the 3gen scoop complete with toyota chrome trim and scoop plug for winter use! I'll try to get ahold of my guy today i can get prices but i won't have pics right away maybe in a day or two. thrid gens i'm not sure about I think the factory hood with the scoop will fit them. but i will ask him Aviator.

 

What the hell is the point of the scoops on the 4runners anyway, other than to suck more dirt on top of the engine? The intake is in the front of the engine compartment so I fail to see the benefit; if this was a carb'd engine with an open air filter, maybe... Am I just missing something here?

I like the look, but I'd rather fabricate a ram air scoop behind the grill if I'm going to modify something like that. May as well be useful for the amount of work going into it.

 

I agree with you, but it's $700 for a nonfunctional one. Could you imagine the cost of one that actually worked?

 

I can probably fab something from fiberglass for $50 or less. Or for a little more, carbon fiber if I want it to look cool.

 

Dude! with a hood scoop, it will help the engine get cooler with the air blowing on it. lol hahahahaha j/k!

 

My 99 PreRunner would really benefit from a functional hood scoop. If intercoolers are a big help to turbo cars, I figure a scoop allowing cold air to cross over the S/C could only help.

I think I will make a glass copy of a 4runner hood scoop, one that will accept the toyota peices in the bulge. I will then have a Tacoma hood made from glass and incorporate the scoop.

Just a FYI the preice on that scoop was around $60.00, so for that a little free labor from me, a free hood sitting around and someone to paint for me. I have a scooped hood for a good deal

Gentlemen got in touch with my guy here. he does not have aprice worked out yet but has promised to figure out a price in the next few days. What he has is a one piece fiberglass hood "skin" this means that you would have to take the under frame off your existing hood and have a body man attach the new top skin. These hoods are cherry (I've seen the prototypes) and are worth the effort (I'm saving for one) . He will be either posting some pics himself or sending them to me for posting in the next few days. these skins would come to you in a "green' state ready for priming and painting to match your rig. thats all i have for now more soon.
