paint it black

i've been thinking about this for a while. I recently purchased front and rear warn bumpers for my rig and will be painting all chrome black. Looks much better. After seeing your rig i must do it now.

Not very good pics, but step 3 of the De-Chrome project is done.
1. Front Grill
2. Wheels
3. Wheel Trim and Running Boards
I have the Hurculiner for the front bumper so that's getting started on on Friday Night. As for the back, I got a quote back from a local guy about building me a rear bumper... $900!!!!! F-That! So I'll be trying to rebuild mine and Hurculine it.

hehehehe Real Bad! The last owner pulled a boat, so I think he put it on the hitch by "feel". Give me a sec and I'll send pics.

So what I plan on doing (I took the hitch off today to redo it as well) is take a wire wheel on my angle grinder and really rough up the chrome and clean up the rust spots. I'll prep the rust spots and knock out the dents the best I can. Then bondo and sand everything smooth. Several layers of Hurculiner will seal everything. If the rust is so bad that bondo wont fill I'm move up to the epoxy putty to fill the holes the rust made. I'm thinking several extra layers of the Hurculiner will keep everything sealed so it wont rust anymore or any bondo cracking years down the road.

Here's the pics...

herculiner really covers it up, my bumper had 2 area's that it was rusted completely through. some may disagree how i temp fixed it, i took aluminum foil and glued it to the inside over the holes, then took JB Weld and filled them in. worked good, just took a little while to dry,it sands good too, i should have took pic's. this is the best i have to show the rust spot, one off to the left of the other one, light cuts it out.

make sure when you repair that bumper that you take it completely off, alot easier to work with.. 4 bolts inside the back peice, 3 on each side peice plus ones for your flaps. and like 10 or something like that on the top, maybe 8. all visible.
