I just got a quote from the local Line-X dealer, and I was quoted $375 over rail and $325 under rail. This was a little higher than I expected to pay to have my truck spreaded. What do you guys think? I like everythink about it other than the price.

 

Don't know where you are or what you haul but if you like your truck bed bite the bullet and line-x it.

 

I got mine Rhino-lined and haven't regretted it at all since.
Rather than start a Rhino vs. Line-x debate let me just say that the peace of mind and the durability of the bedliner is worth the price.

Just so you know I paid $379 for mine over the rail.

 

Grab a brush and use Herculiner. It's less expensive. It's as good as Line-x.

Kinda pricy, but the stuff is really nice.

I know the hard-core guys are gonna flame us DIY'ers but I used the spray/roll on from Duplicolor (avail. through napa) Its about $40 bucks a gallon and you can buy a spray gun for about $40 bucks (I sprayed mine on). I didn't even get it on as thick as I wanted but it still works great for what I need. No I dont use it everyday for carryin' cement blocks or tossing in and out engine blocks or anything like that. But it works for anything I need to haul in it. It looks great too( I went over the rails) I took my time taping lines and surface preping all of it. For the $100 bucks or so Ive got in it and the several hours Im happy with it and I saved about $300 bucks. Im contemplating doing the rocker panels, as my 33's are chunking out my paint.

 

Our 03 Silverado has Linex with over the rails and they did a great job on it. My 93 Toyota is rusting from the plastic bedliner rubbing, but it's better than nothing I guess.

 

I've been debating over or under the rail Line-X myself.

If you go over the rail can you still put a shell on the bed? I don't see why you wouldn't be able to and you'd be protecting the contact surfaces. The only thing I can think of is the seal the shell wants to make with the bed wont be there.

 

Yeah, we used a shell with the linex over the rails. Didn't see any problems with it.

 

I wanted to go the DIY route too but some surface rust in my bed turned me away from it. I think if your bed is in good shape and you take your time the DIY stuff should work fine. I had an old drop in out that rubbed everything and started to cause some rust so I took it to a professional. That is a good price on the Line-X, when I was looking around everyone wanted to charge me around $500.

I'd definitely Line-X it. That's the next thing on the list for my Taco.

 

Mine had a drop-in liner also. It has some surface rust in the bed, nothing some elbow grease and sandpaper couldn't handle. Havent noticed any problems. My Time is not worth very much so the hours spend prepping didn't bother me.

We spray Rhino at my shop and after seeing every coating imaginable, I think if you want no-holds-barred tough go Rhino. For looks Armourgard ( Canadian Line-x) but if it just needs to be sealed-Herculiner. But remember, if you go with some brush on coating, don't ever plan on getting it Rhinoed or Line-X because its got to come off first! But all said, all coatings are tough. Just depends how you're going to use it...
