Lifting my 4Runner questions

So I did a lot of trimming to fit 255/85/R16's on stock for the mean time Im waiting to get my lift here it is last weekend during deer season I missed a part on the pinch weld and it ate up some of the furthest right bead on the front right tire but besides that they didn't rub all that much to be honest.

Tundra coil question.

Im going to lift my runner Im going with LC coils in the rear but im wondering about the front does the tundra coil have any advantages/disadvantages? Is it cheaper and easier to run with OME?

I believe the advantage with the tundra springs is that they have a higher spring rate, so they can handle more weight without sagging compared to the OME springs. Either way, you should not use the OME shocks without a limiting strap as it will allow too much droop/ cause more cv breakage

A limiting strap is something that limits the down travel of the suspension.

Read this thread for part #'s/ what shocks to use

toytech/eibach?

Bout time to get my runner lifted. Planned on LC coils in the rear and some 883's/882's up front with a diff drop. I will be running a plate bumper very soon. I looked at toytech and it looks like they have new coils that are made by eibach but have toytechs name on em. Says they get 3 inches of lift. Anyone have experience with them?

LC coils or OME?

I'm about ready to lift my 98. I have sliders that I will be welding on soon and some new rims. Truck is getting a face lift along with a tube front bumper soon.

I'm for sure doing OME up front with some 882 coils for the extra weight of the bumper and eventually a winch, I'll also do a diff drop kit. Now for the back I'm contemplating going with LC coils(wich is what I had on my old ride) but I'm wondering if it will be cheaper to go with OME full suspension kit. If I go with LC coils what shocks do you guys recommend. I'm not trying to cheap out but I know both are quality suspension components I just want to save as much as a I can. I figure I won't be disappointed with either set up.

So are you guys running the standard LC shocks with the coils? How is that? I can see that as being a nice money saver. Anyone know what the average cost should be of the lc coils ? Or LC coils and LC shocks if I go that route? I just don't want to get taken for a fool at the yard. I think I used bilsteins on my old 4 runner when I did the LC coils cant remember fro sure but it was aftermarket.

I'm running OEM LC shocks the part number is 48531-69417. Bilsteins will work too, though I've never used them.
People are selling used LC coils from $40-80$. Keep checking the forum classifieds.

How are you liking the OEM LC shocks? Does it limit flex? Also where can I get them online? Yeah I'll probably buy em off the classifieds on here.

I fully believe that is hogwash about needing limiting straps for OME struts. Not towards you for saying it at all, I know you're just warning him of the "dangers", but the concept that OMEs cause too much droop for your CVs isn't true from my experience. That info has been circulated throughout these forums for a while now, but I have to say it's BS. I've wheeled my truck almost every weekend in the year+ I've had OME shocks and 883s (I live in the mtns so the trails are 5 minutes away) and I've had zero issues with my CVs or anything else. I'm locked up there too so if it hasn't happened to me or the dozens of people I've wheeled with that also have OMEs up front, then it's simply a rumor or a fluke. I also know at least 5 people who have top plate spacers on their OME struts which cause even more droop and still no problems. Don't worry about limiting straps.

EDIT: However, any lift will likely make your stock CVs leak grease. It happens more often than not because the old CVs don't like the new angle. You gan get hose clamps to put over the stock ones to tighten up the boots and that may stop the leak, but it's no big deal. After a while you'll need to get new CVs and they should not have any issues.

Any stock replacement FJZ80 Landcruiser shock will work excellently. I got Tokico Trekmasters for the rear of a '95 LC (part # GE4095) and they will support more flex than you can even get. Best part is they feel great and were $80 shipped for the pair (new from discountautoshocks.com). Here's my flex with LC shocks (and a few other things like no sway bar and custom links)...
