Lifter noise

First I want to say hi to everyone.Newbie here.
I have a question about my 84 Yoda 4x4 22R truck. I recently adjusted the lifters to factory specs 8 thous intake and 12 thous exhaust. Now I notice a slight knock at idle. It might have been there before adjustment, but the lifters were so noisy, who knows. Is this normal for the 22R or do I have a problem.
The truck has 140K on it and dosen't use any oil. I was told It might be a thrust bearing in the engine. Not sure what to do at this point.

First of all welcome, you won't find a nicer place or people here at planet Yota Tech.

you might try a couple of things. The 22R (RE) are noisy motors to begin with but here goes.
When you adjusted them to fac. specs. Did you adjust them with the motor at operating temp?
Most of us here adjust them with a cold motor and use .007 intake and .011 exhuast. That seems to work alot beter. Reason is when you are trying to adjust them hot, as you go thru the motor is cooling down slowly and the tolerances are changing. So try it cold.

Second the adjustment set screws, that contact the valves tend to wear unevenly causing a high spot and low spot. You can pick up a new set at the dealer relativly cheap (don't know exact $$).

Make sure when you are adjusting the valves, that you are not pushing down on the set screw when you check with the feeler guage. I always push down on the cam side when I run the feeler guages thru.

Hope that helps

Thanks, PirateFins.
I did adjust them hot, just cause thats what the book recomended. I will try the cold adjust. I even pulled the cover twice thinking I might have screwed up. But they were right. Just sounds like it might be something else. Hope not.
