I think I'm having some temporary DNS server issues from the redirect...

Corey, doesn't appear that you've been out on the trails for a while??

Last Novmeber was the last time I was out at the crazy playground pit

I was tempted to go up yesterday to the same area and explore, but the rig wanted a bubble bath instead
She was pretty groady & slimy not having had a bath since last October.

I might take a trip up that way within the next few weeks.
There is so much unexplored trails up there.

I have been up that way a few times though up at the Crystal Mountain Ski area.

You really can't call it a simple lift, as a lot was involved such as a solid axle swap up front after taking the IFS off, and in the rear the coils were swapped for leafs.

More details on the swap here.

Just off the top of my head, to do what he did would be close to $5K for a shop to do with parts & labor.
To do the job in a shop would cost about $5K for the front alone, since you're also going to be doing gears a lockers.

Several companies offer kits for $2000 - $2500 that do not include the axle housings, axles, diff, gears or lockers. To have a shop do it, 5K might even be a little cheap.

upndair, if you dont mind exactly how much $ did you spend on your 4runner's suspension (total cost of items, then price of install, if you had it installed) i know you just stated some prices but was jus wonderin about the overall price, i was thinkin about jus goin with a Procomp stage 2 4" IFS lift with maybe a body lift. Im jus curious cuz it might be somethin i want to do in the future.
Thx a lot, Jake the yotafool

Here's the scenario. All prices are approximate.

2" Body lift $100 + $150 install.
4" IFS and rear coil suspension lift $1600 installed.
Detroit True Trac rear - $500 installed.
TRD LSD in the front - $350 installed.
5.29 gears front and rear, $800 installed.

These have all been thrown away.... not to mention the original tires, 32x11.50 tires, 33x12.50 swampers and rims, 35x12.50 TXRs, 35,12.50 MTRs with aluminum rims, also all thrown away.

Current configuration.
This is not the exact configuration, but All Pro has as a complete front a rear kit to give you an idea. http://www.allprooffroad.com/solid3.html

www.aor4x4.com also has kits.

I did my own suspension installs and fabrication. I think it would cost $2000 - $2500 in labor to have it done.

The other costs included ARB lockers front and rear, that were about $1200 each installed.

I also have the 37x12.50 Goodyear MTR on 10x15 rockcrawler rims, total about $1400.

The bumpers and rock sliders are from All pro, about $1000 and I did the install and modifications to accomodate for the body lift.

I got the winch for $300.

Sick yet? I am!

Now I'm working on the dual t-case. I got the t-cases for $300, the 6cyl - 4cyl adaptor for $300 and I still need about $600 in a dual adaptor and t-case mounts, plus front and rear drive shoft mods for about another $200.

Now, I'mn really sick! No wonder I'm broke. That doesn't even take into account all the money I spent on broken stuff. Oh year, the rear disc brake conversion was about $300, but I still need another $300 in parts so that I can have a parking brake again.

Now I'm going to cry!

If you're interested in having stuff like this done, a buddy of mine is looking at opening up a new 4x4 shop in the Milton area, probably in the fall. Jason and I did all the work on my 4Runner. There is a guy (Mike Kash) who's up in Goldbar, who does this kind of work, but getting on the list to get work done, is apparently tough. He does great work though and tends to like to make all his own parts rather than purchase a lot of this stuff retail.

For a total, I have about $12000 under the frame, once the dual t-case is done

For any local guy's here too, Jeff the owner of Badland Bumpers fabs up SAS parts, and can do a whole SAS job.

If I ever have a locker put in the rear, he will be the one that I have do it.

Jake, take this advice from someone who's been there done that. DON'T go with a 4" supension lift. The SAS is SO SUPERIOR that the difference is unbelievable. You'll spend alot of money on that lift kit and find out that a year or two later it probably won't meet your needs.

I posted all the steps I took for a reason. I made the mistake of NOT knowing of envisioning where my rig would end up. You can see how many dollars I threw away in the buildup process.

One last thing. I spent absolutely nothing on fancy stereo's, funny tail lights, pretty guages, or other (what I call) useless modifications. But, that's just my opinion...
