I was about to place an order on http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm for some new 24 LED Brake and Turnsignals for my '93. Then I got to thinking...

If I replace my turn signals with LEDs (which draw relatively little power), will I get the same rapid-blinking effect as with a burned out bulb? Anyone tried this or know of a way to fix it?

 

you should be fine since the power draw on the led unit is drawing 12volt. Its the amps that are lower.

Not familiar with those relays, but experience tells me that it is load dependant and you will have to get some dummy load on there if you want the blinking rate to stay the same.

Or just get an electronically controlled flasher..$20.

 

It's very likely that your blinkers will indicate a blown bulb by flashing quickly since the LEDs will not be drawing enough current. I did this with an EP35 electronic flasher from Autozone and it worked for me. The flasher was a direct fit for my '89 truck. Don't quote me on the "EP35" model number as this is just off from the top of my head but I'm almost pretty sure that this is the correct model number. I can verify it if you want me too.

If you want to go the load resistor route, I do have four of them on me if you're interested. I wouldn't go this route though since it totally defeats the purpose of LEDs. I did try one out with the stock thermal flasher and the load resistor does get really, really hot.
