LED Tail Lights 99

Hi guys my truck got hit and run last night so I need a taillight and decided to go with two of the led version. Has anyone figured out why some people have a abs light issue? I like the looks of the red and smoke on top combo, does anybody have any pics of this setup? Most sites list them for 01-02. Is this a mistake and they will work from 96-02. Thanks

Are you just getting one, or a matching set? It reads like you're just getting one, but I could be wrong. One of each would look pretty silly, no?

Even though they say that it's only for 01-02, it will work with any 3rd gen. I just picked up and installed a set of 01-02 LED smoked tails and they work fine, but you have to change the harness too. (The new harness comes included).

It will only throw the abs light if you have a LED 3rd brake light. Mine threw the light, since I have the Jaos Spoiler, which has LED's.

Are these the ones you're considering?

Are the best ones out there branded eagle eyes, I like the smoke on top but I would go with the clear on top if they are a better product. There is alot of company's selling on ebay for good prices. My biggest concern is I want the brightest and best looking ones out. What brand is the best, I think the brand should be etched in the plastic at the bottom of the light. What brand are the one's Burtman is selling?

Hey 96743runner I see yours are the eagle eyes, do you find them to be really bright? They look good on your truck. I want the ones with the red on the bottom smoke on top but I have been unable to find out who makes them.

I ordered the ones like ELTON posted a couple days ago. I was told they are made by eagle eyes.

Thanks! They are pretty bright, definitely brighter than the stock tails for sure. So far, these Eagle Eyes do seem like a very high quality product. Looking forward to seeing pics of your new tails!

I was thinking about those lights, but with red tail/brake section (more of a stock look).
So you're saying they come with plug-in harness or it need to be solder in OEM harness?

I changed the bulb to LED in my 3rd Stop light, so I assume it will give ABS light in this case as well. What have you done to get it off?

Alex, I believe you need to install a resistor inline with the 3rd brake light to prevent the ABS light from turning on. Although not everyone who has full LED tail lights (tails and 3rd) has had this issue I think.

Also, I just ordered a LED 3rd brake light, and a few days ago got a call from the eBay seller's company telling me that all the LED 3rd's had manufacturing defects and could not be sold, so I'm still on the hunt for one

Lights off:

why does switching the third brake light to LEDs make the ABS light come on?

The pair that I ordered came with a plug-in harness included. Sorry if I was unclear before.

To turn the ABS light off, I installed one load resistor on the left light, between the ground wire and the brake power wire. Here's a link to where I got this info from:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-ge...ailable-5.html

Read post #69, by CO FlyFisher. I followed what he posted, and it successfully turned the light off for me.

The ABS light can come on when you have LED tails and a LED third brake light. This happens because LEDs consume less power than regular bulbs do, making the system think that your brake lights aren't working, resulting in the ABS light.
