NP man, I can only imagine how bright the white one is going to be. It's definitely worth the $30 dollars!

Check them out here: http://taskled.com/dome.html
I want pictures! I am thinking of getting those as well.

My camera doesn't do night shots well, but the 1W Luxeon (Taskled) bulb is at least as bright as the stock 10w festoon bulb and since it has an internal reflector, the light is much more effective.

Go for it. I love my two

I'd snap you a few pictures, but pictures will not do them any justice.

Has anyone tried these in red?

I was about to go with the 5x5 LEd model which is 2"x2" for my map lights. I measured a 2x2" piece of paper and cut it out to make sure it would fit, and it was way tight - can you get a 5x5 array into a gen 3 4runner maplight hole?

Green, blue and red, pretty much in that order.

Your posts doesn't make sense but i know that red is the best for nightvision.

The thing is, it is VERY hard to use unless you need your night vision. It is hard on the eyes to use red light. If you will only ever use it for things that you need to keep your night vision, then i guess it is up to you.

Personally i would rather have white light i can actually use in the truck lights and carry a red filter and a flashlight, which it just so happens I do.

Never spent a lot of time working outdoors at night I take it.

Might want to do a search on Purple R

Rhodopsin, also known as visual purple, is a pigment of the retina that is responsible for both the formation of the photoreceptor cells and the first events in the perception of light. Rhodopsins belong to the G-protein coupled receptor family and are extremely sensitive to light, enabling vision in low-light conditions. Exposed to white light, the pigment immediately photobleaches, and it takes about 30 minutes to regenerate fully in humans.

I'm planning on just replacing the driverside map lamp with a red LED array. I find white map lights disorienting when driving at night, so that way I'll have a red one for me, and a white one if a need arises.

Can anyone confirm whether the 5x5 will fit properly?

The one on the far right will fit in the dome light, that's what I had in my 02.

I know all that, nothing new to me there.

What i am saying is that for normal use, in a car RED gets annoying real quick. So unless you need it there is no reason IMO to have it.

So anyway, do the 5x5 arrays fit in the maplight holes?

No idea, but i bet if you take a tape messure out there you could find out. If not then do like me and just use extra bright normal lights there. they are actualyl better for reading ect then the LED's anyways.

I just ordered these for my 2000 tacoma bc the little map light sucks and does next to nothing. They measure 1.25 x .75 inches so there pretty small to fit in tight spots and are pretty much universal to fit in screw in bulbs and the fuse type bulbs. I haven't got them yet but they are definately cheaper than your options. I'll let you know how they are when i get them in.
