LED Map & Dome Light Mod!!!

one thing I did that I thought should have been done at the factory: I put a momentary rocker switch on the inside of the tailgate on my 4runner for the back window, so you could run it from the back without crawling over the seats and putting the key in and using the switch up front, came in handy alot when sleeping back there

IIRC I used a momentary switch (on/off/on) it was cheesy as hell, looked like a big, square, chrome power window switch from a late 80's chevy pickup,
IIRC it was wired strait from the battery, with an inline fuse, right to the switch, and then to the motor for the window,
You could just do it right off the key switch, and it should work fine, but it will only work when the key would work (in all reality you would only need it to work then anyways) so it wouldn't help if you had to troubleshoot anything
I'm sorry I'm not too much help,
a little time with a wiring diagram and you could have it done in a day
edit: and, not that it matters, the switch was mounted on the plastic side panel, not the tailgate itself

I run a Luxeon LED dome light in my 1st gen, 30mm festoon bulb replacement:

I run the older 1 watt bulb, a 3 watt is now avaiable, but 1 watt is way bright.

I know that although mine are ok the need some help. I just want LED's for the power saving incase they were left of and i want them bright as possible and a big beam pattern.
And where is the 3watt version? I don't see it.

First step is to remove and identify the type of bulb. Then see if a replacement of an appropriate type and size exists. Here is a drop in replacement for a 30mm festoon type bulb, common for dome lights and map lights on some Toyotas:

The map lights are bulb type Ba9, you can get a replacement from www.autolumination.com To find out if any of the oznium dome lights will fit, all it takes is a simple measuring. It tells the sizes on oznium

Here we go, I finally got my 25 LED Dome light from oznium. It had been back ordered since December 16. Got it installed today and it's bright as hell. I would definitely suggest this if you're looking for a light upgrade:

Man your 4Runner is nice. I you had that thing in LA, #1, it would probably be stolen by now, but #2, you would literally chasing women away from you with a stick.
But seriously, that thing is sweet. I bid on one of those LED dome lights on ebay last night...too bad my weak $11.79 bid didn't meet the reserve price....

Too bad all the good looking #2's from Northern california moved to So cal. Now the only #2's left here look like #2

Rigs like yours should be the reason Yotatech should do a "Featured Rig" each month.

I just upgraded both my dome light and cargo light to 1wt Luxeon LED lights. (Same thing 4Crawler posted up about on pg 3 of this thread.) Wow, are they bright. They're pricey, but definitely worth it. They produce a very bright white light. They've got my vote
