hey all,

i have a bad leak or 2 in my front windsheild area, so i got my windshield resealed and a universal molding put on. i looked at the pinch weld area when the windshield was off and after they wire brushed all the rust off there were about 4 or 5 pin point sized holes in various parts of the pinch weld area. 3 or so of which are located at the top of the pinch weld. so i told them to fill them with the glue stuff that they use and then put the windshield back on. they said that they couldnt guarantee against leaks later on and i said ok that is fine. so i get my truck back and it rains that night.. the leak isnt nearly as bad but it still leaks. and after 2 days i removed the tape and i took my moms car to work (rained while at work) and got home and pass. seat was wet in the front area.

so i am wondering if the problem is STILL the windshield.
also why wont the polyurethane glue stuff stop the leaks as the holes are in the center of the pinchweld area.

WHy dont you put a tarp on top of ur truck till you can pinpoint the leak?

i am going to run a garden hose over it this weekend but i was just wondering how i could go about fixing it.

 

glue isnt going to be able to stop leaks, its too pourous

 

I was having the same trouble with water on the floor.... lots! 1-2"s of it! I thought it was the windshield so I replaced it, did the rust repair around the glass seat area and everything...... Nope. Still wet. So I did the hose thing and watched...... water started coming down the inside of the firewall when I ran lots of water into the vents infront of the wipers...... hmmmm. Pulled the fenders and found rust holes where the water is "suposed" to run out the sides and down the inside of the fenders. The rust went in and around a corner in the drain..... I squirted a half tube of "silly cone" in and mashed it into the offending rust openings..... much better, but not completely fixed, some water still got in. So I pulled the entire dash and everything out to the firewall. The silly cone "repair" didn't quite get it all so I got the rest from inside. Now it is dry in my cab. Big head ache but worth it......

 

I have the same problem with my 89. I haven't reseated the windshield yet, but I'm going to have to soon. Mine's not coming from the firewall because the water drips from the trim around the inside of the windshield on the passenger side. I've tried Creeping Crack Cure and windshield urethane, but nothing seems to stop it. Let me know what you find out.

 

ive blown out a good portion of money trying to fix it so im not going to worry about ituntil next winter. but it is the exact same thing as you are describing
tiger, except mine is leaking only alittle bit but on both sides of the shield. i would think that the urethane would stop the leaks becuase that is really the only thing that can stop the leaks in a windshield. if that stuff were porous then it would be pretty much useless. it could possibly be those little rist holes but i doubt it.

that is the only possible way that water could be coming in though as there are no holes anywhere else on the body except there.

o well i tried and its not that big a deal at the moment

 

I had that problem with my 85 at one point. I could't find it for the longest time no matter what I did, I resealed the windshield too. Water was running down the firewall behind the glovebox area and the floor on the pass side was always wet. I Finally found it - there is a wiring harness that runs through the intake plenum. The grommet had come loose from the hole and water followed the harness into the interiror. It was a Beeyatch to reach up under there and get it reseated, but I managed and that was the answer. No more leak.
