Largest Tire Size for Stock 96 Limited?

Here for a favor for brother...

I have searched and couldn't find a definitive answer. Some for 2000+ years and such.

So the question is how big of a tire can my bro can fit on the 1996 LTD 4x4 Runner? Stock I believe is 265 70-16. Not sure what that is in non metric...

Thanks!

As far as I know, 265/75R16 is about as much as you could go. Some say they get minor rubbing on full wheel lock with this size buy my 97' Ltd. has never had any rubbing problems.

Isn't that what it came with stock? At least that is what is on there now. Can he go any bigger or shall I just tell him to stick to stock?

Is it possible to just do a 2" shackle lift and torque down the Torsion bars to fit say a 31"

Umm...

If he has a '96 4Runner, he does't have shackles or torsion bars on it, he has coil springs. To lift, he can use either taller coils or spacers.

Also, are you sure you didn't read Hboss's response close enough? You mention 265-70 -16 and he mentioned 265-75 -16, which are about an inch taller. Just making sure you are clear...

No the 3rd gens don't come w/shackles & torsion bars. And 31" is pretty much stock (265/70R16) on a 3rd gen. Ltd.

My BFG 265/75R16's are about 31.8". Rounded up to be known as simply "32's".

96 doesn't have torsion bar fronts, and the rear is coil sprung so no shackles.
Stock is 265/70/16 is very close to a 31x10.50 actually it's 30.6x10.4 a 265/75/16 is almost a 32 31.6x10.40 to be exact.
