so ive had this knocking noise coming from my engine from day 1. knocking is the only way i can describe it and its most prevalent when the engine is cold and at idle. it speeds up with engine rpms until its so fast that you cant hear it or until all other engines sounds drown it out. does anyone else have this problem? what could it be? 2000 tacoma 3.4l

I think I had what you are describing. Sounded like it was coming from the drivers side somewhere? I broke a rod and have the engine sitting in my garage right now and am going to tear it down in next week and will let you know if I find anything. Don't worry though, the rod I broke was on the passenger side and unrelated to the knock.
