There's a really nice write-up around somewhere, unfortunately all my bookmarks fled the coop. It's not on Yotatech, but there was a link on one of the threads, I've just got to remember who it was that had it....
bump or til I remember...

Edit: Still can't remember who posted this link, but here it is-
http://mattshowto.blogspot.com/2009/...44127321246682
Yes, I know it's about fuel injectors, but those are in the same area.

And a thread discussing how it's a lot of times the harness and not the knock sensor itself-
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/9...sensor-143178/

There's also some who've had luck bypassing them and installing their own piezo-electric sensor elsewhere. That you'll have to find for your ownself if interested.
I have no personal experience with knock sensors- yet- other than unplugging them made the truck run funky when I hit around 3,000 rpm. (curiosity, looking for ping)

What is the condition of the knock sensor pigtail wire? The pigtail gets cooked from the engine heat and goes bad, rarely do the sensors go bad.

I believe the big M on the sensor denotes MATSUS H I T A. Your local Toyota dealer can confirm since you have the sensor in hand.

The language censor is not liking the company name. Hence, the spaces.

Knock sensor

Ok called toyot this morning about witch knock sensor to buy for my 99 toyota 4 runner 3.4, and they wanted the vin off the vehicle, so I gave it to them and they said either denso 89615-12090. Or matsu˟˟˟˟a 89615-12040 , both would work, just wanted to pass this along incase someone else comes across this problem.
