ok So I got my hood placed on and it started me thinking.. can you get other items installed by the dealer after you buy your car?
So my question is.. I have a 2000 SR5 and was wondering if I could get a factory or dealer installed moonroof.. Yeah I know I said I didnt care ... but now Im starting to think... What the Hell? why cant I have a moonroof? what do you think it would cost??

 

the dealer wont do that.... maybe you could get all toyota parts from the dealer, but they wont cut the whole and install it....

 

The dealer won't touch it. However, there are a lot of aftermarket companies that specialize in moonroofs, Coddifornia tops, etc. You might check your yellow pages.

 

I'd recommend not doing this. I've never had it done, but I've owned vehicles where the PO did it, and they seem to ALWAYS leak. Not worth it on a $30K rig IMO.

 

the moonroof is factory installed. i'm pretty sure it takes more than punching a hole in the roof to install one. i'm pretty sure that their is two 4runner bodies at the factory - one with the moonroof and one with the moonroof.

i have known dealership contract out aftermarket sunroofs to local sunroof shops to do theirs.

i had a aftermarket sunroof installed in my extended cab tacoma and never had a problem. the shop i got it installed showed me his, a 88 4runner with the sunroof installed in 91. no signs of leaks in the headliner or on the bare bottom. the key is the shop.

you can get dealer installed options like alarms, running boards, SC, changers, hood visors.

 

So what he's saying is you've already got the hole in your roof. I'm surprised you haven't noticed when it's been raining.

 

 

I'm pretty sure mine is the first one...good thing they put that piece of sliding glass in there.

 

My g/f had the dealership (arrange) install an aftermarket sunroof/moonroof in her Accord. It looks as good as the factory one and it has no leaks so far.

 

I'm just saying you're not getting the "toyota quality" when you have a hole cut in your rig. Just isn't worth it IMO.

 

I wish the Tacomas would come with a sunroof and not just the pop-up moonroof. There's plenty of room in my extended cab for one to slide back into.
