Gawd I hate Ca.
For those of you not living in Ca, you should be concerned too, because as somebody said in the above thread, Ca is the testing grounds for other states.

DON'T WORRY!!!! ;)
If you read the fine print, you'll find that it doesn't apply to you.
3) Not apply to deep tread, winter-type snow tires, space-saver
or temporary use spare tires, off-road tires, or tires with nominal
rim diameters of 12 inches or less.
This is only going to apply to regular tires. Basically keep tire companies from making oem size tires with horrible treadwear so that you have to keep buying more tires. You are completely safe!!! Looks like you should be fine.

To quote somebody on Pirate:
It applies to you if you wish to drive on DOT legal tires...
The motorcycle community has already defind what an "off-road tire" is, a non DOT legal tire (MX, "off-road use only" tires). In the transportation industry, an off-road vehicle (not an off-highway vehicle) is defined as a road-grader, bull dozer, forklift or other non-street legal heavy equipment vehicle. The tires exempted by this proposed law are tractor tires and tires for induatrial equipment (not your wimpy 44" boggers).
If you wish to chance being issued a citation for non-DOT legal tires, during your drive on any street legal roads, then I guess this regulation may not apply to you (just fit tires for "competition use only", and stay off street legal roads and trails).

Steve, you beat me to it. I was going to post the same section from the Pirate thread.
Its enough to be concerned. What's next?? Also, skip down to the bottom of page 1 of that thread, where someone brings up another bill that would add 10 cents to every bullet sold to go towards a Victim's fund.
"Not to hyjack the thread, but a little more Kalif. idiocy.
AB992 would add a 10 cent fee to each bullet or componet for a victim's fund.
That means that the brick of 22s that you just bought at WalMart for $10.00 would have and additional $50.00 of AB992 fees added."
Get me the heck outta this state.

ugh...more california rediculousness.
does anything positive ever come out of that state? i've always been for kicking it out of the union, especially since so many of them had to come up here to WA and screw up our way of life with theirs

Just remember guys, everything trickles down to the rest of the country eventually. Kinda like gun laws. The greenies are trying to slowly chip away at the laws.

Who keeps voting for the state Senate and House of Reps. members that come up with this stuff.
Seems like the state government is pretty well corrupted by city slickers with cash.
Colorado is full to.

shall develop an efficiency program of statewide
applicability for replacement tires for passenger cars and light
trucks, designed to ensure that the replacement tires sold in
the state are at least as energy efficient, on average, as the
tires sold in the state as original equipment on new
passenger cars and light trucks.

What a mess. Half of the tires currently sold in the state would become illegal since they aren't as efficient as the average? Then what happens to the average?? How about an argument that when stuck in snow or other road surfaces average tires are much less efficient because they are stuck and spinning while a nice beefy Bogger contines to propell the vehicle?

Has the bill passed or is it still in the process?
