I bought a 4runner/Tacoma K&N Cold Air Intake kit for the 3.4L, but it doesn't fit my 1996 4runner. From the research I've done, the kit I have will fit the 1998 and later 3.4L motors. $175

 

If it won't work on a 96 4runner then it won't work on a 98 4runner either. The 96-98 3.4L intake is different then the 99-02 3.4L. the MAF seems to be different. The attachment is different. I wanted one too but the cost was just too much for me. 96-98 you use the entire MAF section of the intake mated between the K&N pipe and filter. 99-02 the MAF is different. Don't think it will work on a 98 4runner.
