junking the power antenna......
Has anyone removed the power antenna from the 2ng gen's. Ive replaced the mast once already and its on its way again. I had an 89 pickup and it had a fixed antenna. Can someone fill me in on where to get a replacement or maybe even a small billet antenna and how to remove the power antenna. Thanks in advance

stretch.. Here's a link to when I did it with part #'s The pic is not showing because I took most of my stuff off the web
Antenna Mod post The fixed one is much nicer and you can take it off with a wrench to go wheeling and stuff and not have to worry bout it getting bent.

BTW, I also did this. It is awesome!! My radio never came in this good from the day I bought it!! Only draw back I had is the antenna gasket was smaller than the power, but, you can put the rubber gasket from the power antenna under the manual antenna and it looks decent and will not show a mark from where the power antenna sat.. (a buffing may remove the mark as well, I was too lazy to break out the buffer)

Me too. Lee, I pitched my power one without saving the gasket. I wish I would have saved it, cause I have the mark you are referring to. If I ever get off my arse and get a clay bar, etc, it will get the attention it needs...

My base model came stock with the whip...I hated it. So, after spending mucho bucks on the antenna unit, found out I had to buy the just as expensive relay. I loved it...2 years later (just the other day) it broke. The infamous plastic toothed chain snapped inside the motor. 33 bucks later and a 1/2 hour of my labor to pop that liner and crack open the motor, I still love it.
I kept my stock whip just in case I get sick of doing that...

Hey guys I used a product called T-cut to get that mark off. You use it to strip wax with and stuff. I would think bug and tar remover or any similiar product would work. There was no scuffing in the paint at all. Get rid of that mark!!

I was out wheeling one day and when I turned on my radio my antenna went up and popped right out and fell off. I was like "What the Hell?
". It was already bent and wouldn't go all the way down so I just left it off. I hate the radio I only listen to CDs anyways

I can't say that I've had good luck with radio reception since. My babble on it is over here:

Since writing that, I've found that FireStik makes a 3' (and a 4') AM/FM antenna. There's a distributor about 30 miles north of me - he's out of stock on the 3''s but I aim to try it when he gets some in.

(pick "other antennas" off the top, then "light fiberglass" from the menu on the left)
