Jingling

On my 99 SR5 I get a little ting like keys jangling or some other lightweight metal jingling around when I go over a good bump. It also seems to be louder when the window is down. The only thing that I had thought of were the jack tools but I have since ruled that out. Anyone have the same thing?

Maybe your skid plate is loose? you sure its not your keys, lol. My truck has always had a thud in the back. I found out that its the cargo cover moving around.

Have you done any brake work or rotated the tires recently?

There is a dust shield behind the front rotors that always seems to get tweaked and just contacts the spindle assembly ever so lightly. You can gently flex it back out with your hands.

Good call on the skids Greg.

My ashtray screws have also loosend up before causing a little jingle.

It could be Santa!

You must be talking about a different tire mount than mine. Mine just uses a cable, no chain whatsoever. I already forget what my second gen used.

I hear the same noise (keys or chain rattle or chink sound)on my 98 Limited. Noisier on drivers side.
Checked around spare wheel(its missing) and there is nothing there that would rattle.

I had that problem when I had my spare of my 89 on my 59 Chevy pickup (oddly enough they have the same bolt pattern) and my spare had a chain that held the gate it rested on, on. It was very annoying, so I just rapped it around the actual tire mount part and I was good to go!

Try the exhaust heat shields. The nuts and bolts rust away to nothing and it ends up making some serious noise. Just throw a new nut and bolt on there.

In my beast (lifted '78 3/4 ton GMC Suburban) it's the goal to "ring" the stearing column. The stearing column cap on top of the column just under the steering wheel is just a steel bell shaped cap. My keys are long enough that if I hit a bump just right they swing up and ring the bell. I usually get a good hoot from my passengers with the bell is rung

On topic sort of: I did find a socket in the wheel well once that would ding on the spider bar and I couldn't figure out what it was for weeks. Damn little gremlins

i have a similar noise on my 95 honda accord (biggest pos ever, all the bolts on the underside are half a milimeter smaller than they were in 95)

first i replaced the muffler, all the metal baffles had rusted and fallen to the bottom and rattled, you could see day light through it.

now ive found my cat to be so deteiorated that it makes this sound... much like dragging tin cans full of pebbles. its really horrible.

i had same problem... over the front brake pads on the caliper there is a little metal piece and that broke and was bouncing off the inside of my wheel. its a easy fix
