Good thing I just changed the location of the folder. Here are a few completed pictures.

Heres the link to the project. I didn't really update it everyday.

sorry to jump in here guys.
i'm impressed what you all have done.

i'm converting my guages to RED, needles & switches to BLUE.
My stock cluster is very similar to the ones you are doing.
I had already started this conversion a few days ago, Had lumin problems so i came here.

i had a few high intensity LED's laying around which i experimented with on the stock guage cluster and determined that even diffusing (sanding) these would only project dots to the back of the cluster. Which is fine for the sw's

i experimented with low lumen diffused REDs, thinking it wouldn't give the spot light look. but still spotty

I placed 5 LED's behind the Speed dial. (spaced out evenly in a crescent shape) this is by far not enough, maybe 10 would do it. an LED behind each number.

What are the specs on the LED's you guys are using? & how many are you placing behind each guage? configuration, Rvalues & I measurements?
for ex.)

speedo dial only, i used:
5- 5mm LED's (2.6Vdc , 28mA, 10mcd) ->(considered low lumen. ultra bright would be somewhere around "5000mcd")
1- .25W, 100ohm Resistor (.5W should be used for this config)

the config was.)
R in series with 5 led's

My measurements.)
ITotal for this circuit was (22mA) measured
P dissipation was (.26W) calculated

{My config is pushing the limits to the componant ratings.}

I really really want to do this but all the write ups are kind of gone. I printed out half of this thread and tried to piece it together but I'm still kind of lost. Anyone have any of the write ups or maybe point me in the right direction?

Depends on what you plan on doing and where you're at on ur conversion. Theres no real write up except what is on this thread. Unfortunately theres no pictures left and all of mine are down because my webspace has expired.

Well I really just wanted to change the colors from green to blue. I thought I could just buy those covers and take the green ones off and put blue ones on. But from the sound of it, it wouldn't be bright enough? I don't want to change the gauges.

The covers won't produce the blue color that you want. You won't have to replace the gauges but it is a daunting task to do LEDs. Light distribution won't be perfect and I'm having some problems now. The solder on my LEDs are starting to loosen up and some of them are flickering. I'll eventually fix them but for now I put the old bulbs back in for the time being. If you need some photo shots I'll post them up. Let me know.
