well tomorow morning the 7th injector kit finally goes in at the toyota dealership. as everyone knows theres plenty of information here about the fuel mod kits; i personally chose the 7th injector kit for one main reason, i couldnt install the urd one and i had bad luck finding someone who could.

tonight i think im going to try to get some 0-60 times and then do it again tomorow night and compare. also if i can find a good sound recording device, ill record ping at certain times and do the same tomorow. anything else that would be cool to compare, please share.

by the way, the kit was * i believe * $999 (ill check receipt tomorow). just in case anyone didnt know.

i also have a tmc 1.1 controller installed that i will be keeping in; tomorow afternoon ill probably play around with my deck plate mod (already done, but the cover is in) and possibly the ISR mod as well (also already done, but a little more involved as far as removing it). i will update as soon as i get the 4runner back tomorow. (should be around lunchtime)

I have tried both the deckplate mod and elbow mod, and both "open" at the same time. By far the elbow mod only is the way to go. While I don't have data to back it up, surely the elbow is pulling slightly cooler air out of the fender vs. the open deckplate. It just makes sense.

In summary: I closed my deckplate permanently and went with the elbow mod. Results have been great.

Listen for ping between 1800 and 2800 RPM at 50% - 100% throttle position. I bet you will still get some, even with the 7th. But best of luck to you.

 

well i just got back from dropping it off.

theres a bridge i cross over everytime i go to the gym that really lets you hear the pinging. i will be using that as a reference; i couldnt really find anything to record the sound.

also, 0-60 time pre 7th injector seemed to be around 8 seconds. my brilliant friend doesnt quite know how to operate a stopwatch, so we had to make several runs. i do however have a strong feeling/memory of what it feels like while accelerating, and will be sure to be able to tell a difference.

as per the transmission, what all is the serious chance of me doing damage to it? and how can i avoid such damage? and as far as clutches go, ive got a centerforce dual friction and so far its been very good to me.

 

You don't have to worry about damage to the 5-speed tranny (unless you really beat the crap out of it). They were talking about the 1 - 2 shift on the Auto trans-equipped 5VZ's.

 

well i got it back.

and what can i say, its faster. it feels like the way i imagined a supercharged 4runner would drive before i drove one. it also sounds a lot better.

i just took out the elbow but i havent driven it yet. 0-60 has definately improved by about .5 seconds.

ill be playing around with the deckplate and isr and see if i like those or not. overall im QUITE pleased, and have yet to hear any pinging.

 

Dude, do one or the other (deckplate or elbow). I have heard claims that you can get some weird pressure variation in the filter box (or something along those lines) with both "open."

Again, I highly recommend the elbow only.

IMO ISR was noticeable when N/A. When supercharged, no real difference. I'd leave it in.

 

Yeah, the ISR probably won't do much for you in regards to power. It potentially could make the SC'r whine a bit louder though, which is cool.

 

How important is it to have the part of the elbow that connects to the airbox? I was thinking of just using the air box sitting in front of the hole into the fender well but no connection. Is that a bad idea?

 

So you are going to cut that part that sticks out off the airbox Dale?

 

No, not cut anything, but just not use any of the elbow part.

 

well honestly, even if the isr doesnt do much as far as power, if it does make a noticeable sound difference, i really might do that.

Well, I think what you are asking is what everyone does anyway, which is pull the elbow piece from the airbox/fender/stock snorkel, leaving simply a small portion of tube that faces the fenderwell hole. If that's the case, then go for it!

 

Hmmmm????... when I had my 7th istalled, trd actually sent a small hunk of silicone tube to replace the elbow. Did your kit not include this?

Check out the installation instructions the tubing is part of the kit. It's used to replace the elbow and let the airbox draw straight from the fender well.
