WTF would you put a zuzu engine in a yota for?! haha. Most likely it will not, considering they are two very different companies. Is the yota's engine out of it? If so, take a piece of cardboard end make a trace of the bellhousing and bolt pattern, then campare. The splines have to match too.
By the way, ever think of rereading your post to mkae sure that it is understandable? "i got a 86 isuzu tropper engine give to me it is a 2.something was wondeing "

Well, the older Isuzu transmissions look to my eye nothing like the R150f (or AX15) or the old G54 or W56. AND, Isuzu owners came up with all kinds of mods to the transmission gears and adapters for t-cases, etc, which they wouldn't have needed to do if they could simply have bolted in a Yota or TJ trans to get the better off road ratios. So, my best guess is that the tropper motor won't bolt up to your Toyota trans. You might ask the folks at Teralow - they would be totally knowledgeable on the Zuzu...

I wouldnt ever diss Isuzu. I had a 92 Isuzu pickup with a 2 bbl 2.3 SOHC and a 5 speed manual and that beast was built! I beat the ˟˟˟˟ out of that truck every damn day and when I got my Mustang I gave it to my grandfather who needed a vehicle that got good gas milage and had cold a/c. And now it has 210K miles and is still running just as strong.

actually there's certain isuzu motors that'll bolt to a toyota transmission.
i wouldn't waste my time putting anything other than a toyota 4 cylinder in a toyota truck. not worth the effort. however isuzu makes good v6 motors(as long as it isn't the CHEVY junk 2.8 used in the 80s-early 90s) and they'd make a pretty good swap candidate if you can find a good one cheaply

Isuzu is aligned with GM again these days too, although they don't advertise it much. The Ascender/Trailblazer/Envoy comes to mind...

If I remember, years ago the chevy ppl didn't outright buy izuzu, but basically played the "captain-save-a-ho" role when zu's where losing money faster,on their cars/trucks than it took for the titanic to hit the ocean floor. What the zu ppl couldn't figure was why they weren't selling cars, but were making money selling their "hume-built" engines.
Just exactly what F*rd did w/mazda.But with the re-introduction of the rot moter in the RX-8, it's biting ford in the ass cuz not only is mazda buying their shares back....but are making enuff to start purchasing ford stock......

As somebody who owned and loved a Trooper for 309,000 miles, my advice would be to stay as far away from that engine as possible . While the Isuzu 4's are good, reliable work-horse engines, they are extremely maintinance intensive, as opposed to your average Toyota engine. The particular engine I think you're speaking of is the 2.3L, which is related to the 2.6L that I have the most experiance with. On both of them, for example, you have to adjust the valves every 15,000 miles religiously . If you don't, you're asking for blown head gaskets at best - and a warped head, at worst. But then again, if you just like tinkering on your truck, Isuzu might be a good choice! Cheers!

gm does NOT own isuzu. they own a large amount of stock in them, but don't own the company outright. it's sort of like the old AMC/renault thing, and gm is playing the frenchman here :p
actually, cars like the isuzu impulse outsold their gm counterparts and gm BANNED isuzu from advertising them back in the 80s...they tried to strangle them off

I wailed on that thing on trails and the road and it worked flawlessly for years.
But alas, I had upgraded to the 4Runner.

If you're looking for a swap, try and get one from a 90, or 91 Trooper.....they redesigned the head on the 2.6 in '89 1/2 to correct some of the warpage problems assocciated with that motor. After that, remember to adjust the valves, and you'll be in good shape. Once you get good at it, it only takes less than an hour.

I don't know if it'll fit a Toyota or not......but, if a 2.3L will fit the 2.6L should fit as I'm like 80% sure that they are the same block. It's appearently pretty simple to drop the 2.6 into a 1st gen Trooper with the 2.3, you get way more power (relativly), and better milage.
