Does my 04 Taco have an intake silencer? I looked at the tech articles and found several excellent write ups. But, nothing that looks like mine.

My 04 has a small box on toward the front of the vehicle attached to the air intake. It also has an crooked (hook like) elbow hanging down below and another tube near the plenum that has a large tube going across the rear of the engine.

Do I have an intake silencer and if so, is it possible to take it out? What do I leave in?

 

The big box on the side of the rubber intake hose is the silencer it will have a smaller rubber hose attached to it. If you do the deck plate mod and remove the silencer it will sound loud, just plug up the hole and rig it up to so the vacuum line is plugged back in. Don't removed J looking thing it is a water trap, at lease in threory. Check out Gadgets site he has some good info.
