Intake "J" Tube, what is it?

Okay guys, I just did a newly designed ISR Mod on my 04 Double Cab Taco, thread here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/newly-designed-isr-04-double-cab-100417/

My question is the little J shaped tube on the bottom of the intake tube, at first I thought another silencer, but I figure it has to be a water trap, Hence the J shape, it has no baffles inside, so is this a water trap of sorts? If so will it hurt to remove it? Thanks for any input here guys...

I am also curious...
Maybe it is an aditional silencer?

See, at first I thought it was a silencer, but since it has no baffles inside at all, I want sure.

We got into a big discussion a few years ago about this here on YT. A lot of us agreed that it is probably a moisture collection device. Especially useful in extremely humid environments or possibly if a small amount of water was injested into the intake somehow.

A few guys mentioned they had liquid in there tube from just driving around in the summer time in the south...

There was no liquid in mine, but it has been dry and cold here, with the engine temps getting up warm, so it would evapporate easily had there been any water in there...
