I just installed a fan out of the thunderbird about 3 weeks ago. I think ive finally got it dialed in. But i got to thinking. Is there a way to use the output of a stock temp sensor to control the fan rather then the temp prob. Im looking for something more reliable that and less sensitive to ambient temps. Im sure there is a way just wondering if anyone else thought about this.

Havent' seen anyone use the OEM temp sensor to control a fan. Suppose it would work. Temperature probes work just fine? What are you gonna use to control the fan? I mean really, for $30-40 you can buy a complete fan relay control and be done.

bigblue, i have the whole thing all set up with all the relays. it works but i dont particularly like. im also a engineer so im working on trying make it better.

will do not sure whens its gonna happen. I have a internship working with pressure sensors...im sure my boss knows a think or two about something like this. Im gonna pick his brain next week.

So i think i figured this out and it will be installed this weekend i hope. I bought this controller

and then made my own rad hose adapter because couldn't find the right diameter adapter with a 3/8ntp

Heres are the pics of it, sorry crappy cell pics. hopefully it gets the job done.

 

Eric, are you sure the thunderbird fan doesn't draw more than 25 amps?

The rad hose manifold looks killer!

 

thanks, buddy did the welding i did the machining, yes the fan pulls more then 25 amps, i have all my big relays that will be tripped by that controller so there will not be high current flowing through it.

Well i am a little late on the update on this but i ripped it all out. Over heated a couple times because the controls had the fan set on off. Throughout the whole time, i never saw any real gains in power or mpg. Decided toyota knew what they were doing and just put the stock fan back in.

 

I as well have pulled my efan from in front of my 3.4. Worked fine with the 22r-e, not so much now.
