Ingen Intakes - 5VZFE

I am considering buying an Ingen Powerflow intake for my 96 5vzfe.

Does anyone have any experience with Ingen products?

No, but it seems to be a horrible rip off of an already sub-par intake company called "Injen". And whatever it costs, it probably won't be any better than the deckplate mod.

The deckplate mod requires that you have the original intake system. I don't.

The motor in question is a '96 5vzfe being installed into a 1994 4runner. AKA a "3.4 swap".

I have the AFM and the throttle body.

I did not get any of the intake plumbing at all. No tubes, no airbox, no resonator, NOTHING.

I need a CARB legal intake system. A used stock system is hard to find and will cost the same or more than an aftermarket intake. Aftermarket intakes are supposed to add more power, etc, etc. It makes sense to me when spending the same amount of money, more power is a good thing.

The question is very simple.

Which CARB Legal aftermarket intake works well with the 3.4, isn't a hassle to maintain, and does a good job of filtering?

If anyone has a stock intake for a 96 5vzfe for sale, I have the cash. A stock intake is appealing for the ease of supercharging.

Thanks for the help.

Ahh, now that information changes things up a bit ...You are correct that aftermarket intakes are suppose to help make more power. The problem is most of them arent sealed off from the heat in the engine bay. Thats why the stock box is USUALLY the best way to be getting the coldest air for our motors. Since you dont have the stock box (as of right now) I say use whatever intake tube you have and put a Trueflow filter on it.

There is someone around here or another forum that had to do a little work to make it fit using one of their general round filters on just the tube but I cant seem to find it right now

Personally I think thats your best bet thats my .02 cents

I won't be buying an Injen. I am not impressed with the company at all. What follows is the email exchange between me and their support rep.

Subject: Intake for toyota 3.4 5VZFE in '94 4runner
Hello,

I am doing a 3.4 conversion on my '94 4runner. I am using the ORS conversion
package and the ORS custom crossover pipe.

The 5vzfe I purchased did not come with an intake. I have the tubular AFM. I need
to buy an intake system. My options are to track down a stock setup, or add an
aftermarket intake. I am leaning towards an aftermarket intake.

The swap requires relocatine the battery to the driver's side. This frees up the
passenger side for the intake.

Do you have any advice or recommendations as to the installation of the kit in this
application? I downloaded the install instructions and it looks pretty
straightforward.

Quoting Quang Tran <quang@injenNOSpam.com>:
If the throttle body of the swap is in the same location as the stock
engine you can use an intake for the stock engine. However, because
you are relocating the battery, I'm pretty sure an intake for the
swapped motor would work also. Best regards.

My followup question -
For this application -

1996 5VZFE 3.4 V6 from a 2wd Tacoma installed in a 1994 4runner. I am
using the ORS conversion package and the ORS custom crossover pipe.

ORS = Off Road Solutions

The details of what I am doing can be found at

http://www.offroadsolutions.com/tech...ersion_kit.htm

I'll be running with the stock AFM, fuel pump, injectors, exhaust
manifolds, and the stock exhaust, at first. I plan to upgrade the
exhaust system, once I pass the smog referee. I'll be asking about
Ingen's exhaust options at that time. I am likely to install a
supercharger, eventually.

What are my options for an Ingen intake?
In other words, what parts number(s) and optional parts should I order
to make this a trouble free installation?
I would like to order everything at once so that I can complete the
installation and turn the key. I don't want to get stuck missing a key
part.

Thanks for the assistance.

PF2055 would be your best bet. This kit was tuned for the 3.4L so it
might operate on your application. Here is a install picture.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My followup -

When I do a search on for PF2055 on injen.com I get "Your Search
Yielded No Results".

DAGS = Sponsored link to CarDomain.com on right side takes me to a
link, which then links to

http://www.cardomain.com/item/INJPF2055WB

Key info on that page is

Applications

1999-2004 TOYOTA 4RUNNER
1999-2004 TOYOTA TACOMA

The '96 to '98 5VZFE use a tubular AFM, 99 and up use something else.

If I had ordered what you recommended I would have something that
wouldn't work.

The other issue I have is that I live in California, so I need a CARB
legal intake.

Sorry for recommending that part number, I wasn't sure what year your
engine was. PF2050 is for a 96-98 3.4L, CARB on this kit is still
pending.

My followup -

When I go to the Smog referee to get the conversion signed off, what
does "pending" mean?

When do you expect certification?

That intake system is still pending CARB approval.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
My followup -

Let's try this again.

I take my '95 4runner with a '96 5vzfe in to the CARB smog referee.

I have a stock '96 5vzfe motor and exhaust, with the exception of a
"pending approval" Ingen Intake system installed.

Do I pass or fail?

A "yes or no" answer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

You would fail the visual inspection because the intake does not have the CARB sticker
it. To ref your car with a swap, it is best to keep the swapped engine stock as
possible. Best regards.

I have my intake assembly off of my 99 with the deckplate already cut. I have the air box, maf tube and "intake silencer" portion - everything you need from box to throttle body (except for the filter). Let me know if you are interested!

I have a '96. The AFM is tubular. IIRC they changed over to a different AFM in '98, so I am looking for the intake plumbing from a '96 or '97.

eBay item # 110092175748 is a tubular AFM

Thank you all very much for the offers.
