Question I'm looking for a 5-speed Tacoma. Are there any?

I'm in the market for a 1995 to 2004 Tacoma. Prefer 4 cyl, 5-speed, 4X4, ext cab. I haven't seen many in my part of the world. And what is a "pre-runner"? Is it a 2WD Tacoma, with 6 lugs?

Also, in what year did they start putting in a pass. side airbag?

Well they are out there. Keep looking. They seem to be pretty plentiful. a Pre-Runner Tacoma is basically a 4wd Tacoma but without the front drive-train and transfer case.

Are you stuck on a 4cyl (if so...why?). It seems like I see more V6 5spd trucks than 4cyl. Although there just arent that many people wanting to get rid of them, so they are hard to find.

Not really stuck on a L4, but I though it would be easier to find a base model truck. 4cyl, 5-speed, no power options, stuff like that.

Funny, but a guy I work with had the hardest time trying to unload his base model, 2WD, 5 speed, 4 cylinder Tacoma. No one here wants them. They all want bigger motors and 4WD.

Then I would broaden your search. Sounds like you criteria are, 5spd, 4x4, ext cab. use that and see what pops up. Good luck

Couple of notes ...

(1) No 1995.5 - 2004 Tacoma had side airbags.

(2) If you want a 5-speed manual, you can forget PreRunners. All pre-2005 PreRunners were automatics.

The question was "in what year did they start putting in a passenger side airbag". Nothing to do with side airbags, which are a different animal.
