I'm happy too!
Yay! After having my carburater sitting idly by, waiting to be installed, today oppurtunity to install it arose. I was working alone and this was really my first automotive project, I've only helped my dad work on a few muscle cars and replaced my shocks. The job took about 6 hours to get it installed (I was taking a picture of EVERY vacuum line to make sure to install the new one right), and by that time rain had come, so I only got to start it and find out it idles too slowly and then stop. Adjusting idle speed will have to wait till tomorrow. I am just so happy to get his done and do the work myself. Here are some pics, I hope, this is my first time trying to post pics... pics of the install

Thanks, I am pretty stoked about doing it myself. The idle is giving me alot of problems. It runs fine for a few min, and the it will idle way too low and want to quit. I am thinking that is wayyy to rich, so I am taking it to a garage on weds and I will let them figure it out. The engine sounds great though with it on.

You might check with the place you bought the carb and see if they jetted it for your engine. If your dad is an old hot rodder, he can probably show you how to re-jet the carb.
You also might check your vacuum connections before you take it in.

My dad is 1200 miles away in cali, and admitted to me last night he is as lost as I am when it comes to carbs
so unfortunately he can't show me. I bought the carb from Checkers (Schucks Kragen) so I don't think they would jet it for me. Besides, the place I am taking it too is awesome, the only place my dad trusts here in Colorado. They will fix whatever needs to be fixed, do it right, and they guarantee all their work. All I am worried about is getting it to idle enough that I can drive it to the place, since its about 20 min away.

Well, i got the dreaded call from my mechanic, he said that my carb is defective and they can't do a thing to it without running up to $600 or so, twice the price of the carb. I went by checkers and they said they can swap it out, but I am still out $80 for the mechanic fee, and possibly another $50 or so for a new catalytic converter, since the carb was running so rich. I am going to see if Holley will reimburse me for the $80 since I am only a student making $6.80 an hour, thats nearly a whole week's worth of cash. I feel somewhat better now, nice to tell my frustration to no one in particular.

I feel your pain...Still sounds corny.
Anyway, we've all been in your shoes before. Good luck with Holley. But you did get a professional opinion that saved you several hours of frustration. Plus you found out that you did everything correctly. Not bad for a first wrenching.
