Question ignition coil upgrade

Hey from the new guy!I tried searching the forum but didn't find the answer. I'm debating adding an accel super coil on my 22RE.What changes would I need to make for it to work properly? You know, afm, bigger plug wires, widen plug gaps, hotter plugs, advance or retard timing. If someone knows,I could use the help! thanks in advance!

I had a full MSD set-up on my 95 Civic SI. So here's some info for you...

MSD 6AL
Blaster Coil
3-step limiter
8mm Magnecor wires

A "hotter" ignition will allow you to open the gap a bit on the plugs.

My theory on ignition systems is this:

You wont gain HP per se, instead you will misfire less often, which will allow you to run close to max potential of your stock power.

So theoretically, you maintain power, not really gain it.

Now, if you want to upgrade the power substantially (SC, Turbo, NOS) then the ignition will be much more valuable to you.

I gained nothing by installing $400 worth of ignition parts on my Civic. Spend the money on other parts that will really make a difference (if you havent already). My .02.

Oh yeah, welcome to the best Toyota board around!

Thnx for the welcome and response 98.Someone had told me I'd get better idle, mileage, throttle response by adding the accel coil.Instead of paying for an expensive aftermarket ignition setup, they said I could get the same results with the accel and a good set of wires.Thought I might give it a shot.If so,what gap would you set the plugs, stock gap is .031.

You could safely go to .034 or .035. You could also advance the timing and run premium gas for more power.
