Ideas where I can get a handle for my rear cargo cover?

Well my cargo cover that came w/ my '02 T4R did not come w/ a handle. I checked my wife's 4Runner's cargo cover and of course her's has a handle. I'd take her's, but she hates it when I rob parts of her '00 T4R.

I noticed it's just two screws that hold the handle on, so I figured you could buy that piece seperate. I learned real quick you can't. I called Toyota and they said No, it's sold w/ the cover...which sells for $600.00! (That's crazy, I can't believe those covers are 600 bucks.) Nor could they figure why mine didn't come w/ one since the brackets are there for one. Anyway, I use my cargo cover A LOT and I guess I'm just getting lazy needing a handle.

I'm sure I could prefab one out of something and spray paint it gray, but I'd prefer it to be stock. I know this is a lame request, but anyone got one of these cargo cover handles in gray I could have or know where I can get a used cover and rob the hanlde off it? I've tried the Toy. salvage yard and have had no luck.

Check the classified section for people selling the covers. Many people have the whole cover for $100 or so... better than $600 but more than just a handle would cost. I have a tan one from a '98 that I don't use anymore and would let go for $100 shipped.

Thanks, but $100 is a little pricey when all I need is the handle. I was hoping someone had a broken cover they would let me have for the price of shipping and let me rob the handle from it.

Oh well, guess I'll keep checking the junk yards.

it might be the same handle that you use to pull up the rear seat? they sure look the same.

Are you talking about the straps to pull up the rear seats? In that case, no that's not it. This piece is actually a piece of plastic that's cupped to fit your hand. It's about 5" long and 2" tall.

Try Home Depot, Lowe's, or a cabinet shop and check out their handle/knob section....seems like you could find a decent handle that would bolt right up.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CARGO...QQcmdZViewItem

not a bad price... for now. maybe you can get it cheap. i bought something for my 4runner from this seller and i was pleased with everything, seems like they know how to do the e-biz thing.
hope this helps.

Yeah I thought about trying the Home Improvment Stores, but I'd prefer to go the factory route.

I won't go into detail, but I dabble around in making test bombs for the local bomb squad. If someone saw wha I had through the windows and knew what they were looking at, then I'm sure I'd either have broken windows or either I'd be in really big trouble. Needless to say, I open and close my cargo cover a lot moving stuff in and out.

You rock Patrick! Can't check them at work, (our IT Staff blocks us from viewing Ebay), but when I get home I'll check them out and see if that's what I'm looking for.

Be careful on the shipping of the $.99 one, It looked pretty salty when I entered my zip code... $.99 isn't $.99 when it cosets over $50. to ship it.

Seems this could be your chance to customize your T4R. You could use some braided rope, pvc, door knocker, handle from the hardware section.....??

PS - sorry - just trying to help...

yeah, you'd think those handles would be a dime a dozen, but they sure are not.

If I can't get one within 2 mons, then I'll just have to prefab one I guess.

Never thought a handle would be so hard to find cheap!

no prob.
i was looking around on ebay and saw those and remembered reading your post, was just a couple of copy and paste clicks and it was done.
yeah, i noticed the shipping on the .99 cent one was pretty outrageous when i put my zip code in, but i didn't know where you were located so maybe it was FAR away from me and made it insane to ship. i shipped an explorer cargo cover once through UPS for around $15, then sold another one about a year later and it was $38! said it was oversize now when it wasn't a year previous.
hope you find one!

Yeah, I checked those covers out last night, but too bad they are tan. If worse comes to worse, I'll just buy a cover, rob the handle and paint it grey.

Yeah, the .99 cent one said shipping was $55 when I put in my zip! Crazy, crazy.

I'll keep searching Ebay though. Don't know why I didn't think of Ebay selling covers. I guess I forget you can buy almost anything off ebay!

here's another one:

says it's blue? but looks grey to me. did they even make blue interior in '00? shipping says $15 up top but then says $28 in the description, but that's still better than $50+ on that other auction.

Cool, well once again I'll check that one when I get home. (Yeah, weird it says "blue"?)
