I may take the plunge on a '04 Tacoma

Emailed a few local Toyota dealers in a search for a '04 Tacoma extracab 4X4 auto with Limited package..
I like the '99 I picked up but always had 4 wheel drive and miss it.Especially in winter.

Here's an email I recieved.

Hi Joe,
I have several in stock. $300 over my invoice gets you in one. Take advantage this month on the great financing available on the Tacoma. It's that simple.
Tom D.

If he has one in Luner Mist I may pick one up.
I was thinking about the '05.
Just not crazy about buying a first year model and dealer discount will be low if any at all.
Along with higher finance cost.

Yeah, I dont really like the couple of year of a new model, best time is to pick a model up when its about to go out like a 2004, only think will be is the new taco looks pretty good and it will have more power. If you can get a great deal on an '04 Id go for it.

I have the 2.7L now.
A 3.4L would be quite a difference I would imagine.
Especially going up hills.
Haven't driven one yet.
I'm looking for a loaded Limited Xtracab in Lunar Mist.
The dealer that emailed me has one.I don't know how loaded it is.I just left a message.
Guaranteed he'll call.
He said there's low financing but I didn't see anything on Edmunds.com.

I just got off the phone with one of my Toyota friends. This month's incentives are your choice of one of the following on all Tacomas except Double Cabs. If you act quickly, you might find one pre- $200 increase announced last weekend. Good luck!

- $1,000 customer cash back

- 1.9% for 24, 36 or 48 months

-Special lease deal, didn't get the details

These offers will vary between regions and private distributors, but it's what you'll most likely encounter there in the NY Region. My choice would be the $300 over invoice deal less the $1,000 cash back.

Thanks for the reply.
I just got off the phone with that dealer and the dealer where I bought my Pre Runner.
They told me the incentives are $750 or 1.9% for up to 60 months ends 4/30.
I know it will be extended but availabilty then may become a problem.

I think I'll go with a loaded Lunar Mist 4 door SR5 Tacoma. The 4 door is about $1500 more than the Xcab though so I'll think about.
I mentioned I want all options but leather and was told then why choose a Limited. The only differences are badging and fender flares and a savings of about $900 with the loaded SR5.

So I'll think about it and if I make the move it will be the end of the month.
A birthday present for me.

I had also considered a 2004 model, but will wait for the 2005 Tacoma DC. It will have significant advantages over the current generation Tacoma (more power, better mileage, better interior, improved safety, more rear leg room, etc).

I bought an '04 Regular cab 4WD automatic in Feb. I'm just enjoying the heck out of it. If you need a larger truck wait on the '05, otherwise you'll love the '04. It's just the same old good old Toyota 4x4.

I appreciate your imput, outahere. But I actually like the size of the present Tacoma.
First year models scare me.
Till after next winter financing and list price discounts will be less or not at all on the '05 new model.
We're not talking Ford or Chevy.
Toyota is the last to give incentives and they won't unless they have to in my opinion.

I agree on not buying a first model year car.... One of the main reasons I bought my 04 Taco.

Here are some things to know.

Tacomas don't have a leather option.
Limited's come with better bucket seats (main reason I got a limited).
You can't buy a '04 Limited Xtra cab.

The price you were quoted is pretty good. I got my d-cab for $23900. I was lucky, they were having great rebates at the time ($1600 off).

Hey Redvet go to Carmax.com, I looked it up for Cebby a few weeks ago but they had DB tacoma SR5 loaded for $23 and change. These are brand new. They have a New car dealership in Laurel, Md.

I feel pretty confident about buying a first year 2005 Tacoma. On the other hand I would not buy a first year Ford or VW. The new 4Runner only had a few minor problems when it was released 1 1/2 years ago, and that knowledge will be incorporated into the new Tacoma. I believe the Tacoma will be built at a new factory in Mexico, so there may be assembly glitches in the first few months of production. So I will wait a few months after start of production to purchase the Tacoma.

But as you say, the discounts on a 2004 Tacoma will be much bigger than those on a 2005 Tacoma.
