Went out to my 97 with 212k on her now, started her up and she's purring like the day she was born. I have the biggest smile on my face for some reason, its crazy after all the things I've put her through she still grins every time I turn the key over. Gotta love that. I doubt too many domestic owners can say the same about their trucks. It seems that every 4runner/tacoma with over 150k i see for sale are running like they day they rolled off the line. My taco has just over 100k right now. I know if i take good care of it...it will take good care of me for many years to come.

 

Mines never skipped a beat, nothing better than that!

 

Love mine too. I had a 98 GMC Jimmy that cost me $200 just to maintain. It was paid for but I was tired of taking it to the repair shop every couple months. So I bought a 99 4runner. It is a great truck. In the year and half I've owned it, not a single problem. I'm not even worried about a jinx. I'll say it again, not a single problem.

 

mine was acting up with 240k and put in a salvage motor, new clutch and fly wheel and Martin crawler bushings on my shifter.. dang it drives like new!

 

yota's don't break in till after 150k Mine is almost at 200K...I live in a very extreme climate (+40/-40) and the truck runs GREAT. But I guess that's expected with Toyota.

Still looks as good as it did on the show room floor.

almost 190k and it runs perfectly. only problem i ever had was an Audi A4 stuck in my left front fender

 

Mine just roller over 200k and it seems like I've picked up some gas mileage. Now I'm getting about 19-20 in town where as before 200k it was 17-18. Not sure if this will keep up but I love it.

 

I've had a GM and a FORD and none of them ever come close to my 3rd gen in quality or reliability. I just finished a week of a full overhaul on my 2001 Runner (it has 230K). I did the ball joints which really didn't need it but didn't realized to till after I replaced them. I put in a new radiator and OME springs and shocks all the way around and slapped on a ARB bumper and a Warn 9,5XP.

It rides like a dream and still gets up and goes when ya crack the whip on her . I'm leaving Houston for Colorado tonight and I've had several people tell me I'm crazy driving a car with over 200K miles that far. But as soon as I tell them its a Toyota trunk they are "Oh well that's different it just broke in).

Toyota made a winner when they came out with the 3rd gen runners and Tacoma. I was sad to see when they went to the 4th gen.

 

mmmhmmm! I'm a convert. 140XXX KMS on my 98 youngster. Only had to change the rear axle inner oil seals!

 

Back in 98 my parents got my runner brand new from the dealer and it still runs perfectly, although it has only 63k. 11 years later they decided to give it to me and I will never get rid of it. Still breaking it in! lol

 

My 4th and my favorite Toyota truck. Bought it 8 years ago with 90K (bone stock with 225s) - 187K on it now. I've never had a more reliable anything. Wouldn't trade it for 2 brand new Fords.

Mine just hit 90K miles as we pulled into camp site on Wolf Creek Pass on vacation this last week. The next day I put in exactly 10.0 gallons and the odometer was on 200.0 kind of weird coincidences back to back.

My water pump is dripping slightly but I would almost bet it could go another 90K, I read of you guys with 150K on your timing belts.

Nonetheless I enjoy spending my cash on my truck to keep it as perfect as possible.

It's incredibly satisfying to have people come up to my 10 year old debadged truck and say "Is that an '06?" or "Why did Toyota stop making that body style? that is gorgeous"

The guys at the car wash drool and then wipe it off my truck. The guy at Firestone tried to buy it from me. I tell them it is a salvage title and they don't even blink.

My 3rd Yota truck. It's still growing on me. It's too dang pretty to really hard core off road in, my 2nd gen was more scratched up/better for that type of thing. Only slightly less reliable than my 77Sr5 longbed 2wd....that truck would go and go and still get 25 mpg and still can't believe I gave that one up...

cmon I want to hear some more love out there....

 

loving my yota so far....i dont get nearly as much attention as i did in my m3, but for what it is, my whole family loves it.

 

Mine will finally be paid off Thursday and I'm just under 150k miles and outside of normal maintenance items (TB/WP done at 138k) the only thing I've had to fix was rear axle seals which is almost a normal maintenance item at around 100k anyway and I broke a swaybar link off roading.

My '99 is one of the most reliable vehciles I've ever owned.

 

I plan on driving mine until my kids are out of the house. And my youngest is 6! But it should be well under 300K by that time so I don't foresee any issues.

 

I bought my 3rd gen limited 5 years ago and it had 103,000 miles. Now it has 199,850 miles. I'm tempted to go for a 150 mile drive just to watch the odometer roll over to 200,000! LOL! My wife and I love our 4Runner and plan to keep it for a long time.

 

I love mine so much I bought it a new transmission!!! Its third one.
