Ok, is there a main engine wiring harness disconnect? or am I going to have to pull apart the wiring?

Firefyter-Emt, how did you do this? I saw that you had the plenum on while the engine was still out of the engine bay. I found that you can't take off all the wires without taking the plenum off. How'd you get around this?

No, I only set the plenum on the intake to keep it safe in that photo.. I painted it sliver (car paint) and set it up there to dry overnight.. You may be able to unplug the harness under the dash .. BUT, you still need to unbolt the fuel rails.. The plenum is not hard to remove... A few hoses, but you really need to to get to some of the other hoses...

If you know someone with a lable maker.. borrow it and lable the hoses to where they go or make matching numbers.. Do you have a fax ??

Hey, thanks for the info. Actually I already had the plenum off and I was looking at what else I had to do to pull it. From looking at it the wiring won't be that hard. I got a digital camera that I'm using for all this. The only reason that I ask is because when I was taking the plenum off there were a few hoses that were giving me some trouble and I eventually got them off when I had part of the plenum jacked up. I really appricate all the help you've given me. I know I'll have some more questions to come. One of them is, like I said before, I got aftermarket cams put on but nothing came with the engine that specified the lift or duration of them. Is this a problem? Also is there a way to check if the #1 piston is at TDC? or to check if it's timmed? This weekend i'm going to be working on it a lot so I'm sure that I'll be posting soon.
-thanks again

Pretty easy on these motors.. Bring the timing marks up to 0 on the t-belt cover and pull the spark plug out of #1 (Keep in mind, that is the passanger side front plug.. You can shine a flash light right in the hole and see the piston top, if it is up you are there.. if you don't see it, crank the vibration damper around once to bring the timing marks up again and the piston should be up now.. When you install the distributor, make sure that the rotor is pointing to #1 spark plug (I am pretty sure that it is right centered where the wire harness passes out of the distributor.. Any more questions??

You know, I can fax some of the pages from the FSM to you...

I'll see if I can get a fax number. Thanks for help. right now, the #1 piston looks like it's at TDC, I had a light that I used to look through the spark plug hole. another question, does having different cams have an effect on the timing?

Is should not make any diffrence.. the point your valves open and how long they open will be diffrent, but the timing sholud be the same (at least for the amount of a whole tooth off) The cam may require a diffrent degree, but the timing marks shoulb be set to TDC with the marks set to 0.. you fine tune it with the distributor..
