I got a great deal on a Taco!

Long story short -- old guy at work had a '96 Tacoma 4x4 extended cab that I've been coveting for the nearly seven years we've worked together. He came into work one day a few weeks ago and announced to a few of us that he had bought a new truck and was putting his Taco up for sale. I immediately gophered up over the cubicle walls and said, "HOW MUCH?!"

It's a '96 4-cyl (2.7L) 4x4 extended cab with 137K miles on it; engine in great shape, exterior is in good shape except for the driver's side quarter panel behind the door where someone backed into him last year. He did the basic body work on that with bondo and some spray paint. It doesn't look great but that's the ONLY thing wrong with this truck. Runs like a top as you'd expect. Total cost?

$1500

I told him he could sell it for twice that, and he knows, but he also knew that I'd wanted that truck for a long time and was kind enough to cut me a heck of a deal. He payed cash for the two new vehicles he just bought, just like he has all of his vehicles, so I'm fairly certain he's not hurting for money. I appreciate his generosity and I'm thrilled to have this truck.

No doubt. Sold the 4Runner back in '07 and haven't been around much since then. I miss wheeling, and definitely miss the Epic Mobile. I do NOT miss the money pit it had become.

This one is going to be my daily driver for a few years but I'll probably do some mods down the road to make it a bit more trail worthy. I've been living in the Land Cruiser world for the last 4 years and I still have my '94 Cruiser but the gas mileage was killing me. Nice to have two quality and venerable Toyota's in the drive way.

Thanks for the welcome back.

OMG why does things like that not happen to me. I am sure with the rebuilt engine in mine and the current work being done on my frame I could sell mine for that much and would have bought that. Good deal man and x3 on a build thread.

Check the valve clearance gaps and check the exhaust manifold for cracks ASAP

Wow! I've been looking at buying a Tacoma and they are a lot more expensive than a 4runner.
