I guess this is a great intro thread. I have....had a mint 97 SR5 w/ 188K Plans to due some light mods and some easy offroading. I have lurked this site for ideas and am learning much.

btw I am glad she was in the runner, she drives a Mazda 3 so I think she would have been a loser in that car.>

Friend of mine got the deer, Angie refused to eat any jerky..Her insurance is paying for this, I only had liability. No airbag deployment, she said it didnt feel like much of a impact? I was wondering if the sensors were frame mounted? will have the body shop look into the airbag function. I was 95% sure they would have been blown when I drove up to the scene. I have never seen such a centering of impact..swallowed the deer whole.

All in all I am glad she hit it with my truck, she was fine and thats whats important. She felt worse then I did about the whole deal. freaks ya out a little bit when you see what can happen in a second.

I have been very alert while driving my car.

I can understand why the airbag might not deploy.....and how she said it really didn't feel that bad(the impact).....I just put an Allpro bumper on my 2001 Taco and as you can see in the pic, there is absolutely nothing solid in the bumper area except the frame horns themselves. Your front bumper is very similar to my factory one....the lower piece is a rubberized piece of cosmetic plastic and the upper chrome piece is paper thin.

I am not surprised the air bags did not deploy, they are designed not to go off under a certain speed or amount of impact. When you hit something that gives way, such as a deer, they shouldn't go off, only if you hit a solid object w/ enough momentum.

Either way glad she is safe, and I agree being in the 4Runner was probably better for her, probably killed the deer quicker as well.

I was going with the TJM and not even have the shop order a bumper...but since my girlfriends insurance company is involved just going to have it fixed. TJM will still be a wish list item for now.

Well I was gonna suggest a TJM, but that'll be out of the question apparently. That's the reason I won't let my fiance drive my 4Runner much... if she gets in a wreck then I am liable for anyone else who gets hurt since it's on MY insurance and not hers. Just glad to know she wasn't hurt. There is a thread in the off topic section where a deer was practically disentigrated from an impact.

ZUK is correct the airbag sensor is smart, so the impact wasnt the "real deal" in fact the deployment would have caused more harm than good.

dang it guys....what is the going rate for a TJM-17? time to search.

I guess different states = different rules of coverage.

In Nebraska this would have been on my insurance only.
