I finally won a clinometer!

Guys,

After MONTHS of losing auctions to win a clinometer or watching them climb to sky high prices, I finally won one that came out of a Surf. The icons looks like a 4Runner too, not like a Tercel station wagon

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2444339588

I actually think this could have run much higher, but due to this seller mislabeling this as an altimeter and the Thanksgiving holiday, I got this for a measly $56 + shipping. I've seen some Tercel clinometers going for as high as $91 recently.

I'm going to take this out of the case, make a single-DIN sized box for it, reverse the location of the AM/FM stereo and put this in the top DIN slot. The problem then is to relocate the 6-CD changer. Maybe i'll just have to buy a single DIN MP3 player.

Oh thats right...Wild Bill (of entire blue interior lighting fame) did this:

Anyways, just wanted to share this small bit of good news. Happy Thanksgiving!

Bob

Edit: Great pic of the other install, now I know what it looks like.

you may want to reconsider your mounting plan.

although the utility of a clinometer is questionable, if you actually are going to look at it, you want it somewhere that is easily visible.

i have found that my clinometer is more of an item for passengers to look at when they are about to ˟˟˟˟ their pants. its also useful for when my girlfriend takes pictures and catches the clinometer in them, because we all know that pictures never do an incline justice.

Nice score Bob. I guess you need some Surf badges now.

I think the clinometers I can recall seeing here were mounted on the dash.

I agree that you should mount it high so you can see it better;I'd like to score one of those too.

Nice snag, Bob! If you are unable to get it to fit, I'll be happy to take it off your hands...

Mike,
I have one that's just sitting in the attic. My bro bought it for me in Okinawa while stationed there. PM me if you are interested.

Guys,

Yeah, trust me, I know that the clinometer would be best mounted high somewhere on the dash. But as you know, the sloping contours of the 3rd gen dash board do not allow for an easy fit like the 2nd gens. Not to mention, this is blue and my interior color is oak. Any suggestions?

Hey Corey and others: can you guys post shots of your mounted clinometers?

Bob

Bob, you can get paint at autoshops for plastic to paint the clinometer.

Here's a few shots of mine.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of an altimeter in a car?

Corey,

Thanks for the pics. The last one was the best. Looks like you made a mount underneath to make it level. True? If so, what did you use?

Personally though, it doesn't look "stock/OEM" enough for me, even if it is the best place for it. I'm gonna have to put the brain matter into gear and think this through a little more.

Just a nice reference to your altitude,it's kinda nice when way up in the mountains and very handy here in Colorado;I guess in Florida,Texas and most of the U.S. an altimieter is irrelavant.

Ric,

Ah no, this one is gonna find a place in MY 'runner! Maybe I might have to learn some creative fiberglassing. I guess I'll have to learn soon.
