Well, two weeks into it..I love it. The truck no longer hunts for gears on the highway, I can cruise at 80 easily, breeze through rain storms, accelerate better....
There is on downside, the tires push hard in turns. They are softer....but then again...this is a 4runner right...

Confirmation
I have the same observations. I downsized to 245 70 - 16s for my winter tires (Michelin X-ice) for the all the same reasons you stated. The 4R does drive better with the smaller tires. I have not noticed any change in cornering ability but I don't push it in corners anyway. If I ever wear out the LTX summer tires I plan to replace them with the smaller tire.
