I can change my sig line now!

Old: I'm without Toyota. Anyone want to take pity and help?

New: 1999 Tacoma ex-cab 2.7/5spd "Paco the Taco" (sorry if that's not original)

I previously had a 93 4runner, so I'm making the big change up to the 96+ plus forum. I have a whole new system to learn the quirks of, so I'll probably be here a bit now.

It was everything I had asked for in a truck, I wouldn't have changed a thing... 4cyl, 5 speed, mechanically sound and solid, cosmetically rough and dirty as hell. I found it at a toyota dealership, of all places... After spending two weeks and driving over 1000 miles looking at vehicles from private sellers who, with a couple exceptions, were misrepresenting the mechanical condition of their rigs, the last place I expected to find a really together truck was at the dealership. But sure enough, my wife made me stop, "just in case someone has traded something in" and there it was. (I sure love my wife!) Someone had just traded it in, that same day. I bought it without even a dealer detail job, just to get my filthy paws on it right away.

It feels like pulling on an old favorite pair of shoes.

Now I just have to find a camper shell/ topper for it... Anyone?

Anyway, just wanted to say hello on this forum and share my stoke.

Thats awesome, man. I'm happy for ya. You're gonna like the 2.7, especially if you had a 3.0 in you old rig. Makes as good if not better power, and MUCH improved gas mileage.

Yep, I'm double-overhead peeling right point break stoked!

And I actually had the 22re in my old 'runner, so this is a BIG deal to me. It's really why I had to skip up a generation, because I just wasn't finding the 22re/5spd combo in any kind of good condition. I sure as hell wasn't going to go with the 3.0, and I just don't trust a high-mile AT.

I'll take some pictures of the dirt tomorrow, it is seriously comical. There's like half a bale of hay in the bed all mixed up with probably a case of crushed soda cans, and the interior looks is like solid layer of dust on the floor, and the armrest is shiny with wear/dirt. Pop the hood, though, and the engine is practically glowing.

Well... Not really anything to make it more off-road worthy. The most important function I was looking to fulfill with this ride is my surfmobile. Home for me is Texas, and I make a 20-hour run to the west coast of mexico a few times a year. So being able to run comfortably on the highway is numero uno. After that, I really just need to be able to run some trails and up and down the beach once I get there. My old 4runner with stock suspension and cheap tires was more than adequate for my purposes. Running 31x10.5s right now I feel like I won the lottery already!

But there are a couple of things that I definitely want to do. I want a good shell on the back, so I can lock my stuff up, and a good set of racks on top of the shell. Other than that, I'm ready to roll as is.

Boring, I know. But I'm all about the reliability.
