Did you do a complete flush? You didn't say whether they were auto or manual trannys. If they were Autos and you did a flush..... then you learned the hard way, that you never flush an auto tranny. They will tell you to flush at most cheapie shops, but only because they know you will be back soon to replace the tranny. When they flush it, they end up blowing out some of the seals. I don't remember the exact science of it, but I've heard tons of stories about ruined trannys after flushes on one of the Nissan 300ZX boards.

No, both vehicles were 5 speeds. "MTL" Manual Transmission Lubricant

Yeah, I know about the Auto flush deal. Got screwed on that one at the dealer on my Tacoma.

Okay... so... you guys are saying to NEVER do a flush on an auto tranny??? I had mine done about 2 1/2 years ago, did my GF's C1500 about 6 months ago, and have been told by a reputable friend that I should do mine again.

umm... ??? "eeek"?

No. What is being said, is that when an older auto tranny is flushed, it will go out almost instantaneously in some cases. No one can really explain exactly why. I read that on Gadget's site too, and that was directly from Level 10.

So in other words, if you suspect your auto tranny is acting up, do not get it flushed, you may end its life that much sooner.

It has to do with the metallic particles in the old fluid, so if your transmission is about ready to die and you replace the fluid, the new fluid will make the tranny slip

Oh, okay... I can see this being an issue.

So, you shouldn't be flushing an auto tranny as a way to _fix_ slipping, because obviously the slipping is coming from something that's probably destroying itself. So, the pressure of forcing the fluid - most likely impregnated with metal fragments - out past the seals will just tear the bejeazus out of the seals.

Got it. I'm better now... Time to head back to my nap.

Thanks guys!
